Position Overview: The Tax Project Lead is a part of the Domestic Tax Group at Sherwin-Williams, reporting to the Senior Manager, Domestic Income Taxes. The Tax Project Lead is responsible for Tax Compliance, Accounting & Reporting Processes within the Domestic Tax Group. The Tax Project Lead ensures that Sherwin-Williams is compliant with U.S. Federal, State, & Local tax laws as well as Financial Reporting Standards under ASC 740. Because this role involves access to confidential financial information, the Company has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and to provide similar protections for its clients and potential investments Job Responsibilities: Tax Compliance & Accounting Prepare State & Local yearly & quarterly tax provision calculations and schedules in accordance with ASC 740, including SALT current & deferred provision, SALT tax reserve analysis, and ensuring accurate reporting of SALT taxes in the financial statement. Prepare Federal yearly & quarterly tax provision calculations and schedules in accordance with ASC 740, including current & deferred provision, tax reserve analysis, and ensuring accurate reporting of U.S. income taxes in the financial statement. Prepare & pay Federal, State & Local annual extension calculations and quarterly estimated tax calculations in accordance with legislatively required filing & payment methods. Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of complex worldwide, unitary, and separate company State & Local income and Franchise tax returns, annual reports, state modifications, tax credits, and state apportionment. Prepare the SALT annual Return to Provision and State Effective Tax Rate computations. Provide detailed reconciliation and analysis to support the RTP calculations. Maintain & reconcile the State & Local Income Tax and Franchise tax accruals. Prepare journal entries to support proper balances & prepare monthly account reconciliations. Manage and resolve State & Local Income and Franchise tax notices. Maintain notice log, contact State & Local government officials, ensure proper documentation, resolution, and follow up as needed for rectifying issues on a go forward basis. Review & monitor the fixed asset system to ensure the proper Federal and State tax treatment of depreciation and asset retirements. Tax Research & Audit Support Federal, State & Local tax research and monitoring of legislative developments and analysis & implementation of new tax law requirements. Identify and implement tax savings opportunities. Assist Federal, State & Local Audit Manager with review and analysis of auditors' reports, locate and compile documentation in support of audit information documents responses (IDRs) and auditor questions. Assess uncertain tax provisions and maintain compliance with reporting requirements under FIN 48. Process Improvement & Automation Identify & implement automation & standardization of tax workpapers and processes to streamline tax compliance & accounting while focusing on creating consistency to minimize risk. Cross-functional collaboration with internal teams (IT, finance, operations) to improve tax efficiency and manage risk, while serving as a business partner for the company and striving for operational excellence. Basic Required Qualifications: Education: Required: Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance Preferred: Masters Degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or MBA preferred Experience: Required: 8+ years of tax experience in a corporate State & Local income tax function or in a large public accounting firm with an emphasis in state income tax.
