Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. Senior IT Data Scientist in Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland-Cliffs is in search of a Senior Data Scientist at our headquarters office in Cleveland, Ohio. The Senior Data Scientist (SDS) will provide leadership to the Data & Analytics team helping to develop & run data-centered projects, support cloud-based data focused infrastructure, and provide the means to enable business users self-service reporting. In keeping with this overarching aim, the SDS will be required to outline work requirements, assign tasks to junior staff, and monitor performance within the team. The SDS will also harness their mastery of Data Science to consult on various aspects of these and other projects.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Formulating, suggesting, and managing data-driven projects which are geared at furthering the business's interests.

  • Collating and cleaning data from various entities for later use by Associate Data Scientists.

  • Delegating tasks to Associate Data Scientists to realize the successful completion of projects.

  • Monitoring the performance of Associate Data Scientists and providing them with practical guidance, as needed.

  • Selecting and employing advanced statistical procedures to obtain actionable insights.

  • Cross-validating models to ensure their generalizability, robustness, and accuracy.

  • Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns.

  • Producing and disseminating non-technical reports that detail the successes and limitations of each project.

  • Suggesting ways in which insights are obtained might be used to inform business strategies.

  • Staying informed about developments in Data Science and adjacent fields to ensure that outputs are always relevant.

  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.

  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.

  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.

  • Develop custom data models, predictive models, and machine-learning algorithms to apply to data sets.

  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, ad targeting and other business outcomes.

  • Develop company A/B testing framework and test model quality.

  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.

  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: B.S. or Advanced (preferred) degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or similar

  • 8+ years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models, and is familiar with the following software/tools:

  • Coding knowledge and experience with several languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, etc.

  • Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques.

  • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SQL, etc.

  • Experience creating normalized data models and de-normalized data models.

  • Experience using web services and opensource frameworks like MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, MS-Azure, etc.

  • Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, classification, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.

  • Experience analyzing data from 3rd party providers.

  • Experience with distributed data/computing tools.

  • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using. Create and present reports that detail their findings, recommendations, and solutions.

  • Experience working in Agile teams and using Scrums to organize work.

  • Experience using statistical computer languages to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.

  • Experience working with and creating data architectures.

  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.

  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts and experience with applications.
