Summary:

Provides advanced emergency and critical care patient management during transport of the critically ill or injured patient from the scene or outlying sites to participating secondary and tertiary care institutions. Provides intensive care monitoring, critical care intervention, and advanced surgical skill procedures to critically ill and injured neonates through geriatric age groups. This includes the management of high-risk obstetrical, medical, surgical, respiratory and cardiovascular patients. The specialized training of the RN-Ground Critical Care Transport Nurse Specialist allows for the provision of care to critically ill and injured patients through the use of ventilatory support, continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, including intra-aortic balloon and other cardiac assist devices. Airway management and surgical skill intervention includes cricothyroidotomy, needle chest decompression, chest tube insertion, intra-osseous cannulation and various intubation techniques. Qualifications:

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (or a program seeking accreditation). Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Ohio. A minimum of 3 years recent, active RN experience in a critical-care unit, some of which can be in the Emergency Department or prior mobile ICU, or a minimum of two years RN experience in a critical-care unit combined with a minimum of one year as an active paramedic. Critical Care experience is defined as no less than 4000 hours experience in an ICU or Emergency Department. Possesses the following Certifications: a. AHA BLS b. AHA ACLS c. AHA PALS d. Certified EMT-Basic in the State of Ohio or obtains within 1 year of hire. e. ATLS audit or obtains within 1 year of hire. f. NRP or obtains within -1 year of hire. g. Board certified as CEN, CCRN, CFRN, CTRN or obtains within 1 year of hire For PRN: Prior critical-care aeromedical / ground transport experience within the last two (2) years.

Preferred: Prehospital, flight and/or critical care ground transport experience. A teaching certification for BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, State of Ohio EMS CE Instructor, or Trauma Nursing Core Course and a commitment to teach.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance. Ability to traverse rough or steep terrain or through water while carrying equipment or assisting with patient transport. Ability to work in all types of weather conditions including severe conditions. Ability to be able to handle high noise levels. Ability to work comfortably in a confined area for long periods of time. Ability to ride in the back of ground transport vehicles for long periods of time.
