Apply for Job Job ID 12759 Location Case Main Campus Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE Working under moderate supervision to perform biomedical research using skills in cell culture, molecular biology and protein chemistry and perform experiments on live animal (mice) models. This position will work with animals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform research work in medical and related technical areas involves use of lab skills. Perform cell culture and tissue explant culture. Perform experiments on and collect biological samples on live mouse models of preterm birth using molecular biology and immunoassays. (50%) Maintain records of experiments, record experiment results, and communicate regarding experiment status and results with supervisor. (20%) Assist students and clinical trainees in specific research procedures. (10%) Conduct analysis of gene expression in mouse tissues by qualitative RT-PCR, immunoblotting and/or immunohistochemistry. (10%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCITONS Order laboratory supplies when necessary. Assist in maintenance and daily/weekly quality assurance monitoring of laboratory instruments (pH meter, pipettes, CO2 incubators). (5%) Perform other duties as assigned (5%). CONTACTS Department: Continuous contact with supervisor to discuss research and maintain workflow. University: Occasional contact with other departments to share information. External: Limited or no contact with vendors to exchange information. Students: Regular contact with student employees to exchange information. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no direct supervision of staff employees. QUALIFICAITONS Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in science and 0 to 1 year of experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 0 to 2 years of experience required. REQUIRED SKILLS Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures of molecular biology, protein chemistry and/or histology. However, knowledge of all techniques is not a prerequisite to being hired. The employee will be trained for any procedure or task as required. Desire and ability to learn novel techniques that are taught and follow pre-established protocols to perform the functions of the job. Ability to operate and maintain common laboratory equipment (pipettes, pH meter, balance, microscope, tissue culture CO2 incubator). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face. Good interpersonal skills: ability to work and communicate with various individuals within the laboratory and department. Good organizational skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and give attention to detail in order to complete tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to follow protocols, budget time effectively, and work on several projects simultaneously. Ability to work effectively independently and within a team. Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and conform to shifting priorities, demands and timeline. Must be flexible in order to respond to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently. Must be able to adapt to varying workloads and respond appropriately to stressful situations. Must demonstrate compliance with CWRU animal research and care (ARC) policies and procedures and compliance to regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC guidelines and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
