The Sherwin-Williams Company Manager, Global Accounting & Intercompany in Cleveland, Ohio
The primary responsibilities of the Global Accounting & Intercompany department are to obtain an understanding of current company-wide accounting/finance policies, ownership and maintenance of accounting guidance, thresh holds and cutoff while driving standardization and synergies. Overall goal of this position which is focused on Sales & Rebates is to ensure accuracy and integrity of the Company's sales, while ensuring best practices and consistent improvement. The job responsibilities associated with these core tasks are outlined below: CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: (1) Obtain an understanding of current global Accounting/Finance policies and procedures related to sales & rebates: Work with the SBS, operations teams and business unit teams to gather and centralize procedure and policy Work on standardization of policy and processes Ensure the Company's internal controls around sales & rebates are documented, proper and adhered to Act as the Business Process Owner for all sales & rebates accounting procedures and practices, including understanding and application of ASC 606-Revenue Recognition Design and implement standard SW sales & rebates accounting procedures and practices Support efforts of policy/procedure changes and consistent improvement (2) Ensure overall accuracy of the customer rebate balances on the Company's balance sheet: Balance sheet reconciliation integrity Ensuring reconciling items identified are followed up in a timely manner and cleared Best practices are followed and applied Lead discussions and partner with Sales & Rebates related Accounting/Finance management teams to guide them on policy changes and updates (3) Work with the SBS Sales & Rebates team on but not limited to: Provide recommendations to SBS and the business on process improvement ideas Automation and standard calculations when able Review of new customer contracts as they occur Ensure best practices with sales accounting for transfers between sites and intercompany (4) Collaborate with the Global Finance Policy team with ongoing review and validation of Accounting/Finance policies specific for sales & rebates: Assist in developing an ongoing review and validation process for sales & rebates policies Ensure policies are reviewed, validated, and approved on a recurring basis for sales & rebates Ensure policies are readily available and the finance teams are aware Connecting operational procedures with Finance policy Partner with other departments to update sales & rebates policies for new accounting areas, policy changes, etc. Identify opportunities to streamline company-wide global policies (5) Supervise assigned employees, including a focus on staff development: Delegate tasks as appropriate and provide guidance Review work performed and provide constructive feedback Complete formal and informal performance appraisals Provide opportunities for growth and development - Because this role involves access to confidential financial information, the Company has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and to provide similar protections for its clients and potential investments. FORMAL EDUCATION: Required: Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or finance Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or MBA KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Required: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting and/or auditing. Knowledge of US GAAP Ability to research accounting guidance Ability to review contracts and needed accounting treatment Experience with sales accounting Supervisory experience Preferred: Financial audit experience, including, experience in process documentation, accounting research, etc.
