Case Western Reserve University Lead Communications Officer/Police Dispatcher in Cleveland, Ohio

Job ID 12462 Location Case Main Campus Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE The Lead Communications Officer/Police Dispatcher serves the various constituencies of the university in a manner that is consistent with the educational philosophy and principles of the institution. The primary objective of the position is to reduce the threat of physical harm, protect the physical assets of the university, and provide assistance and emergency response services as warranted. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform the duties of communications officer/police dispatcher. (39%) Develop training protocol for new dispatch personnel. Teach basic dispatch procedures and terminology. Evaluate and document performance. Report information to director (17%) Dispatch and receive radio calls to police and security personnel, handle emergency communication information and make proper notifications per department guidelines. Monitor all phones, radios, designated CCTV locations and alarms taking appropriate action from information received and notifying the appropriate contacts. (12%) Responsible for the computer aided dispatch Incidents and reviewing for quality assurance purposes. Match the email requests to the computer aided dispatch incidents recorded to ensure that contractors are following the proper procedure. (8%) Responsible for monthly panic alarm, blue light, and camera testing and Quick Base entry. Manage emergency telephone audit reports. Verify weekly telephone audit sheets and submit information to Telephone Services. (8%) Preparation and/or data input of various security forms and reports such as incident reports, CAD's, maintenance calls, routine calls for service, discrepancies, access requests, etc. Operate and input to ARMS computer. Maintain regular and complete logs. (7%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsible for reporting any problem with dispatch equipment including camera monitors, computers, alarms, radio equipment, to the director. (4%) Receive and dispatch maintenance calls, urgent calls for Physical Security, maintain card access requests for housing and act as university operator after business hours. Receive and disseminate pertinent information to the assistant director of parking maintenance. (3%) Maintain/update an accurate record of building and room openings. Issue keys to faculty, staff and students per university key control policy on a pre-arranged basis. (2%) CONTACTS Department: Contact with director, shift officer in command, security officers, fire technicians, information technology personnel, Public Safety Management and administrative staff. For emergency and non-emergency dispatch related information on a daily basis, via telephone and/or radio. University: Contact with contractors, and other university departments on a daily basis, via telephone and/or radio. External: Frequent communication with emergency response agencies, i.e. Cleveland Fire, Police and Emergency Medical Services, Cleveland Heights Fire, Police and Emergency Medical Services, University Circle Police, contractors, vendors, and visitors. Students: Daily contact via telephone; on occasion face-to-face contact for lost and found items. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Supervise 6 safe ride student communication officers. Train new staff. QUALIFICATIONS Experience: 3 to 5 years of related experience required; dispatch/communications experience preferred. Must pass a background investigation, including criminal history. Education/Licensing/Certifications: High school education required; 2-year degree in law enforcement/ criminal justice preferred.
