Job Title: JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT – SERVICE UNIT

Exempt/Nonexempt: NON-EXEMPT

Corps, Institution or Department: DHQ FINANCE

Reports To: DIVISIONAL FISCAL CONTROLLER

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB .

To further the building of the Kingdom of God through The Salvation Army through oversight of Corporate Credit Card activity, processing and maintenance of a portion of the accounting system for the Northeast Ohio Service Extension Accounts and reimbursements to Northeast Ohio Service Units Revolving Funds, processing Online donation systems and serve as Payroll back up.

As an integral part of the Finance Department team the Accounting Clerk is directly responsible to the Divisional Fiscal Director, but has cooperative interaction with the Fiscal Director and Service Unit Director, and must be able to schedule and perform designated responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (this listing is not intended to be exhaustive, but to highlight the primary responsibilities and duties)

  • Monitor Service Unit reimbursements for sufficient documentation and correct procedures.

  • Collaborate with Service Extension Director and reps to develop, improve and issue timely monthly financial records.

  • Communicate deviations from Salvation Army procedure to Service Extension Director, Audit section and Supervisor.

  • Work closely with the Service Extension Director on management reports needed and on the timeliness of reimbursements.

  • Maintain and balance accounts by verifying, posting, reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.

  • Interface with management in various departments, including Service Extension, Development and IT.

  • Process, prepare and analyze monthly bank reconciliations.

  • Review all credit card transactions of Service Unit cardholderes

  • Track and allocate all Service Unit invoices and journals related to Corporate Credit Cards. Submit invoices and journals to the Fiscal Director.

  • Facilitate fiscal closing of DHQ Funds, especially Service Extension fund, as requested.

  • Develop well rounded knowledge of the Salvation Army Accounting System (Serenic) as used for Divisional and Corps Accounting.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintain personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Process releases, analyze and prepare reporting for all online donations including Mail Appeals, EFTs, Internet Donations, etc.

  • Understand the general duties of the following positionsto be prepared to fill in during peak periods:

    Accounts Receivable

    Accountant – THQ/DHQ Deposits/Capital Payroll Fuel Funds
  • Assist the Staff Accountant with the processing of the Corps Financial Statements

  • Any other reasonable duty as assigned

Qualifications

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE .

Associates degree in Accounting (or related field)

Proficient skill in Excel and other Microsoft Office software

Knowledge of computerized accounting software packages

Schedule and perform designated responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Ability to process detailed data with maximum accuracy.
