Apply for Job Job ID 12677 Location Case Main Campus Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE Working under general supervision, perform specific aspects of problems in machine learning and artificial intelligence with potential applications to many domains including healthcare. The computer engineer 1 will receive supervision on new aspects of the work and on difficult problems. They will apply the principles of software engineering to the development, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of computerized algorithms for research applications. Duties include improving operations by conducting systems analysis and determining operational feasibility when developing scientific projects within the lab. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Participate in strategy and planning meetings with the principal investigator and the research team to ascertain needs and actions associated technical development efforts in novel AI approaches being designed in the lab. Choose appropriate machine learning models based on the problem type (classification, regression, clustering, etc.). (30%) Support complex scientific and research programs related to area of specialization; analyze data, monitor, and oversee experimental process, and design and develop prototypes, specialized equipment, and/or systems. Determine feasibility of assigned tasks by evaluating requirements, and proposed solutions. Train models using labeled data (supervised learning) or explore unsupervised techniques. Perform model evaluation, validation, error analysis, interpretability, correlation and interpretability. (20%) Apply methods and techniques, adjust and correlate data, determine errors in results, and follow the operation through a series of related steps to completion. Work closely with the principal investigator on implementing and debugging software tools and packages to ensure they can be used by lab members. Continuously monitor model performance and retain periodically to adapt to changing data. (20%) Exercise judgment on certain details of the work and in assisting in making preliminary selections and adoptions of possible alternatives. Evaluate adequacy of computing techniques, study and test new packages and environments. This will be including implementing, testing, debugging software packages and code workflows on different datasets and cohorts. (20%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS May be assisted in work by a technician or student helper. Interact with the appropriate research associate and/or graduate student to help them utilize the tools being created in the assigned project and receive their feedback when the tools are evaluated. Work with undergraduate researchers on the team. (5%) Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment. Participate in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations. QUALIFICATIONS Experience: 0 to 2 years of professional engineering experience. Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering.
