To coordinate all aspects of environmental, health and safety (EHS) management to successfully meet or exceed enterprise and business unit goals.

The EHS Manager will report to an individual with responsibility in manufacturing or operations for the business segment.

The EHS Manager has a dotted line relationship with Corporate EHS and other functional business unit leaders as well as EHS Managers within their business segment.

Scope will usually be a medium size high risk division, a large size division, multi division, or a region such as a Country. This position has direct reports.

Essential Functions/Roles & Responsibilities/Main Duties/Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for leading EHS programs and procedures cascaded from Corporate, Group or Division to meet enterprise and business unit EHS objectives and targets with an emphasis on Safety and Accident Prevention, EHS Regulatory Compliance and Resource Conservation.

• Responsible for leading the successful use of EHS management systems which includes the Corporate EHS Directives, ISO 14001 certification and any other applicable EHS management system certifications or elements.

• Responsible for ensuring all required EHS reporting is completed which includes performance against targets and goals, regulatory reporting, and corporate, business unit and customer required reporting.

• Manages an EHS training program for applicable EHS training required across the business unit from employee to leader.

• Responsible for leading an EHS corrective action program which would include EHS audits, regulatory inspections, industrial accidents, customer EHS audits and other assessments that identify EHS issues that require corrective action with the exception of environmental remediation of property.

• Responsible for maintaining a resource conservation program which will include but not be limited to energy use, water use and waste generated from production.

• Leads an EHS program for change which includes new processes, equipment, materials and people.

• Leads or manages, as directed, for acquisitions, divestitures, facility closure and environmental remediation of property.

• Actively works with other functional leaders for integration of EHS into Lean, Quality, Supply Chain, HR, Sales, Service and Innovation. Leverage existing systems and procedures in those functional areas to the extent possible in EHS management.

• Leads by example to develop an EHS culture of excellence for safety and environmental management through effective communication.

• Leads program for EHS with contractors that do work on site.

• Leads and manages the development and execution of the EHS strategy for the business unit.

• Routinely interfaces with the leadership team regarding EHS issues, performance and plan.

• Must have solid skills in leading and influencing change and be an agent of change management.

• Must have a good strategic perspective and be able to develop and execute a strategic plan.

• Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and able to influence people at all levels.

• Must be able to comprehend and interpret applicable EHS requirements and translate them into the business language for clear understanding by the business unit leaders and employees.

• Must have strong business acumen and be considered a business partner.

• Must have strong process skills for standardization, continuous improvement and program management.

• Must have a passion for EHS and able to translate into practical action.

• Must have good problem solving skills and experience.

• Must be able to work independently.

The job is subject to a complexity evaluation. Complexity can occur when the job includes other functional responsibilities such as facilities, product stewardship, wellness, security, social responsibility or business risk. Complexity will be factored into the grade and salary associated with the position on a case by case basis.

• College or College Equivalent Degree in a technical field such as EHS, engineering, or science

• 7+ years of applicable EHS experience

• Experience in an industrial work environment with EHS responsibilities

• A solid working knowledge of EHS regulations.

• Experience with ISO type management systems.

• Experience with being a leader and change agent for EHS performance.

• Experience in managing a safety program for multiple facilities.

• Experience with resource conservation management.

• EHS certifications a plus
