Cleveland Clinic Autism Classroom Coordinating Teacher in Cleveland, Ohio

For more than 100 years, the nurses, therapists and physicians at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation have had one goal: to teach children the skills they need to fully participate in the world when they leave. Our Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation offers inpatient care, day hospital care and a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services.

Cleveland Clinic Children's Center for Autism, an innovative and unique education resource for children with autism spectrum disorders, offers community-based intervention and outreach services, trains medical and educational professionals and conducts ongoing autism research. The Lerner School for Autism, a state-of-the-art complex within the center, is one of the few schools of its kind in Ohio. The state-licensed school uses applied behavior analysis (ABA) in both the treatment and educational settings for students from diagnosis through age 22. The school operates year-round and offers a small staff-to-student ratio.

As a Teacher Coordinator, you will collaborate with the Autism Center Coordinator of Educational Services to design specific curricula to work toward each student's Individual Education Plan goals and to design and monitor individual and group programs. You will also provide support and direction for Classroom Behavior Therapist caregivers.

A caregiver in this position works days, from 8:00am-5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Assist in design, implementation, and oversight of Individual Education Plans.

  • Oversees daily flow of student programs and classroom data collection.

  • Organize and schedule group activities and community-based outings.

  • Acquire baseline data and implement programs using behavioral model.

  • Monitor and make appropriate adjustments.

  • Prepare and maintain the necessary educational materials and environment.

  • Provide training and feedback for evaluations.

  • Present on assigned topics at workshops and in-services.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's degree in special education or related field.

  • Knowledge of applied behavior analysis.

  • Ohio State certification as a teacher.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with children, families, educators, and other professionals.

  • One year of experience working with children with autism.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Master's degree.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting students, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination, physically able to manage students of varying weight and sizes.

  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing.

  • May be exposed to communicable diseases.
