Principal Engineer, Optical Metrology
Lead, develop and maintain Optical Metrology for Intraocular Lenses. Lead or support Optical designs and participate in new product development and product improvement projects.
As the subject matter expect, lead the design, development and implementation of optical metrology for intraocular lens products.
Support the development of new optic designs for intraocular lens products.
Provide optical metrology support in new product development as well as for manufacturing operations if needed.
Calibrate and validate optical instruments. Lead engineering and validation studies for new product development.
Prepare high quality validation reports for the support of regulatory approvals in global markets.
Lead investigation into reported optical metrology measurement issues and identify & implement solutions.
Analyze test methods, identify gaps relative to end-user application and improve test method robustness.
Interface with various functions, gather requirements, author and execute protocols and write technical reports.
Participate in project team meetings and provide written and verbal updates.
Generate design control documentation in support of new product development.
Evaluate safety, efficiency and effectiveness of medical devices and provide modeling support where needed.
Review form and function of medical devices and relate lab studies with end user experience.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics, with emphasis on Optical Design and Engineering. Preference for a Master or PhD degree in Optical Science/ Optical Engineering/ Applied Optics or related field
Key qualifications include:
Experience in developing optical metrology strategy, identifying gaps in the current system and leading the execution of the strategy.
Experience on a complete cycle of developing, validating and qualifying optical instrumentation or optical metrology systems.
Experience and knowledge of optical /imaging system design and characterization.
Experience and knowledge with lens measurement systems, such as MTF and wavefront evaluation for lenses.
Capability of using optical design and calculation tools, such as Zemax or MATLAB.
- 7+ years of medical device industry experience or MS Engineering degree with 5+ years in the medical device industry or PhD degree with 2+ years’ experience in the medical device industry. Experience in the ophthalmic medical device industry in the context of intraocular lenses is a big plus.
