Caterpillar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Clayton, NC. In this technical- heavy role, you will collaborate with the team in maintaining and improving processes and systems in the manufacture of the products produced in the facility. Further, you will analyze and recommend current and future systems, procedures and equipment needs based on manufacturing requirements.

What you can look forward to in this role:

  • Initiates and conducts process improvement dialogs with team leads and team members

  • Drives root cause corrective action projects and drives continuous improvement

  • Leads section status reporting and monitors / audits section

  • Leads the creation, implementation, and training of standard work procedures

  • Monitors and improves shop floor safety, aggressively eliminates unsafe processes

  • Assures fixtures, tooling and processes are followed to meet production schedules

  • Determines priorities and sequences jobs

  • Schedules and prioritizes constrained resources, creates and maintains departmental budgets, and adjusts staffing to meet flow and customer requirements

  • Acts as a liaison between the factory and Product Engineering/Software development teams to develop and implement new products and changes within the factory.

  • Responsible for In-Process Validation and Tool Crib for the Clayton, NC facility.

  • Responsible for overseeing factory digitalization and automation projects including but not limited to Factory Andon, torque monitoring software, and integration with assembly systems.

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:

  • Manufacturing Processes : Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.

  • Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.

  • Lean Manufacturing : Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.

  • Capacity Planning & Management : Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service.

Top Candidates for this position may also have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline from an accredited college or university

  • At least 3 years’ project management experience.

  • At least 3 years’ experience evaluating processes and technical solutions.

  • Work experience in Assembly, Fabrications, Logistics, Engineering, Supply Chain, or Quality.

  • Significant experience with Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma.

  • Significant experience developing standard work, manufacturing execution systems, and time studies.

  • A master’s degree in an engineering, technical, or business discipline.

  • Product Testing and/or performance testing experience

  • Deep expertise in Electrical and Hydraulic systems (design and troubleshooting)

  • Programming

  • Experience with factory automation systems, robotics, PLC’s
