Mountain Lakes Medical Center Patient Care Technician - Med/Surg in Clayton, Georgia

PCT - Medical Surgical Floor

Position: Full Time

JOB SUMMARY

Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant. Direct and indirect patient care activities. Clerical duties that include preparation, compilation, and maintenance of records as directed. Compliance with facility policies and procedures and with patient confidentiality.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance of direct and indirect patient care for patients, not limited to, but to include the following duties as directed:

Take and record vital signs.

Assist with the answering and responding to patient call lights

Assist staff with patient hygiene needs and personal care functions.

Linen changes and re-supply

Run errands to other areas and departments as related to patient care.

Assist nursing staff with providing patients with nourishments.

Assist nursing staff with tasks appropriate for reach patients condition, e.g., enemas, track and records intake and output, etc.

Assist with patient procedures as directed.

Assist nursing staff with positioning of patients for procedures.

Communicate observed changes in patients condition.

Maintain work area and assigned areas and equipment in safe sanitary condition.

Use proper techniques and procedures to ensure safe working conditions.

Maintain habits of good personal hygiene and follow rules of conduct.

Perform daily task in accordance with Universal Precautions, infection control, safety and sanitary policies and procedures.

Clean and process used equipment, supplies, and instruments.

Maintain patients dignity, respect patients rights, and maintain confidentiality of their communications and medical record information.

Function in clerical role, i.e., as unit clerk, as needed, to include, but not limited to:

Answer telephone with courtesy and tact, and maintain confidentiality.

Deliver messages appropriately and timely.

Paging of personnel professionally as needed.

Notify nursing staff when a physician telephones and/or needs to leave telephone orders.

Report maintenance needs to the charge nurse, and follow up as directed.

Maintain par level inventory of appropriate paper goods and supplies for the department.

Use FAX machine, copier, and other office equipment as appropriate.

Maintain confidentiality of privileged information regarding patients, family, and personnel.

Establish priorities to organize work and utilize time effectively.

Supply directions and instructions to families and visitors, assisting to enforce smoking, visitation, and food policies

Responsible for the following in a Code or Transfer:

Call attending physician if designated by RN to do so.

Direct family and friends to waiting area.

Page other departments as directed by licensed nursing staff

Make arrangements for transfer, as directed by physician or supervisor.

Make copies of paperwork to accompany the patient.

Retrieve equipment or supplies as needed.

Attend mandatory meetings.

Attend at least 80% of staff meetings to remain current with information.

Attend inservice education.

Ensure that the unit is clean and in order.

Adhere to the dress code.
