Description : CLASSSUMMARY: This is the first of six levels In the Inspection series. incumbents inspect two or fewer types of assigned structural systems, such as plumbing, electrical, gas, or building construction, in residential and commercial buildings. Responsibilities may include determining compliance with applicable codes and standards; approving or rejecting the construction of systems being inspected; and maintaining records of activities and decisions. PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN THROUGH DECEMBER 12, 2023, OR UNTIL FILLED. IN ADDITION TO A COMPLETED APPLICATION, AN ATTACHED RESUME IS PREFERRED.

Example of Duties : TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES:(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.) 1. Inspects the construction and installation of building, electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing systems for compliance with codes,specifications, and plans. Determines if work and workmanship is in compliance. 2. Reviews building, electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing systems plans and specifications to ensure compliance with code.Approves or rejects work plans. 3. Interprets building requirements and restrictions to architects, contractors, builders, and the general public. 4. Prepares and maintains construction and building inspection results, files, and logs; prepares related reports. 5. May provide technical assistance and direction to other building inspection staff in area of assigned specialization. 6. Performs other duties of a similarnature or level.

Typical Qualifications : TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE(positions in this class typically require): High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and one year experience in plumbing, construction, or closely related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Supplemental Information : LICENSING REQUIREMENTS(positions in this class typically require): Licensing Requirements: - Plumbing/Gas/Electrical/ or Building Inspector Certification (incumbents must obtain at least 2 licenses, based on the current demands of the department, within one year of hire) - Driver's License.

**KNOWLEDGE**(position requirements at entry): Knowledge of: - Construction principles and methods; - Construction inspection methods; - Customer service principles; - Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations; - Recordkeeping principles; - Computers and related software applications. **SKILLS**(position requirements at entry): Skill in: - Inspecting construction projects; - Providing customer service; - Reading construction drawings, plans, and/or specifications; - Applying applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations; - Maintaining logs and records; - Using a computer and related software applications; - Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:** Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium Work:Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
