Abington Heights School District Elementary School Building Aide in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania

This is a part-time position- 5.75 hours per a day and  181 day school year position * *Position Purpose To work closely with administrators, faculty and staff to enhance the educational environment of the school.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Prepares materials for the opening of school as needed by the administration, office staff, staff and/or teachers.
  2. Supervises morning and afternoon student arrivals and departures to include assisting with students being dropped off by parents as needed.
  3. Maintains confidentiality with all student issues and records while keeping appropriate teacher informed of matters requiring attention.
  4. Monitors and maintains student safety at all times, provides direct assistance when injury occurs and  promptly secures additional assistance when necessary.  Reports unsafe student behavior to  appropriate staff. Reviews information provided regarding accommodations required for specific  students and implements them within the responsibilities of this position. Maintains awareness of  signs of allergic reactions in the general student population.
  5. Abides by applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, guidelines District policies and  administrative regulations.
  6. Copies and/or assembles materials needed by teachers for instruction and instructional displays and  as needed, by the administration and/or office staff.
  7. Maintains all equipment in his/her workplace in good order and informs the appropriate person, in a timely manner, when repairs beyond their capabilities are needed.
  8. Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
  9. Performs clerical and other duties as needed including but not limited to entering information into   computers, laminating, cutting and folding, die cutting shapes, assembly of booklets and programs  and, creating and/or installing bulletin boards and other displays.
  10. Assists with any and all non-instructional aspects of school programs or activities as requested by the  principal and/or assistant principal.
  11. Abides by applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, guidelines District policies and  administrative regulations. Familiarizes self with assigned student(s) IEP including needed  accommodations in area of responsibility.

Additional Duties:

Performs other duties as assigned.Performs in accordance with school policy, administrative regulations, state and federal laws.

Equipment

  •  Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.

Travel Requirements

  •  Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.

     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  •  Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

  •  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.

  •  Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).

  •  Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.

  •  Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.

  •  Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.

  •  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.

  •  Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.

  •  Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  •  Works in standard office and school building environments.

  •  Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Qualifications Profile

  •  Any combination of education and experience providin the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  •  High School diploma or equivalent.

  •  Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.
