Position Summary

 

The Polysomnographic Tech II is responsible for sleep evaluation, testing and scoring of patients and providing guidance/training to the Polysomnographic Tech I and Sleep Lab Tech Trainee positions. 

 

Essential Functions

 

Works closely with the Health Care Team.

 

Sets up and applies polysomnographic monitoring devices, ensuring patient safety and accurate test results.  Schedules, performs and evaluates the technical validity of overnight sleep studies, nocturnal pulse oximetry, and other related studies.  Acts as a primary provider of patient care during nocturnal and daylight sleep studies. 

 

Oversees patient rounds regularly.  Observe patient, check equipment, change and make adjustments as necessary.

 

Scores reviews and participates in continually improving the quality of polysomnographic testing services.  Provides summary analysis/reports of all polysomnographic studies for physician review.

 

Participates in patient education and support and contributes to identified clinical research.  Instructs patient in the home use of therapeutic devices per physician’s orders.

 

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.  Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment.

 

Must obtain 50 CEU’s every five years to maintain license.

 

Attends the monthly staff meetings and offers into the overall plan of Sleep Lab service.

 

Demonstrates positive guest relation skills and professional behavior in dealing with all hospital contacts.  Demonstrates commitment to professionalism.  Maintains an open mind in dealing with any situation.

Reports to:  Polysomnographic Coordinator or Cardiopulmonary Manager

 

Supervises:  None

 

Qualifications

 

Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (R.PSGT) required. 

Certified in basic CPR course C and BCLS.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and appropriate social skills. 

Ability to teach others is helpful.

 

 

Working Conditions

 

Subject to hazards of flammable gasses.  May be exposed to infectious agents including blood-borne pathogens.
