Job Title: Varsity Head Football Coach

Reports to: Athletic Director / School Principal Employment Type: Seasonal / Stipend-Based

Job Summary:

The Varsity Head Football Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive high school football program that promotes student-athlete growth, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to foster a culture of excellence both on and off the field. The coach will oversee all aspects of the football program, including coaching, player development, game strategy, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Program Development:
  • Establish and promote a positive culture that aligns with the school's athletic mission and values.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive football program, including offseason training, conditioning, and skill development.
  • Serve as a role model for student-athletes by demonstrating high standards of leadership, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, staff, and school administration.
Coaching and Player Development:
  • Plan and execute effective practice sessions focused on skill development, game strategy, and teamwork.
  • Develop game plans and strategies that maximize team performance and competitiveness.
  • Evaluate and assess players abilities, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to student-athletes, emphasizing academic success and character development.
Team and Game Management:
  • Oversee all aspects of game preparation, including scouting opponents and analyzing film.
  • Manage game-day operations, including lineups, play calling, and in-game adjustments.
  • Ensure player safety by following proper training protocols and working with medical staff on injury prevention and treatment.
Staff Supervision and Collaboration:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches, ensuring alignment with the teams goals and philosophy.
  • Work collaboratively with the athletic director, school administrators, and support staff.
  • Foster positive relationships with teachers to ensure student-athletes maintain academic eligibility.
Community and Program Engagement:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, alumni, and the broader community.
  • Promote the football program through school events, media, and community outreach.
  • Organize fundraising activities to support program needs.
  • Encourage participation in youth football programs to develop a strong feeder system.
Compliance and Administration:
  • Ensure compliance with school, district, conference, and state athletic association policies.
  • Maintain accurate records for eligibility, team rosters, equipment, and game statistics.
  • Uphold safety standards and promote sportsmanship among players and coaches.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree preferred (Education, Sports Management, or related field).
  • Coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level, with prior head coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of football rules, techniques, and game strategies.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students, and the community.
  • Must pass all required background checks and possess required coaching certifications.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays during the season.
  • Physically able to demonstrate drills and techniques on the field.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions during outdoor practices and games.
Compensation:
  • Stipend-based salary as determined by the district/athletic dep rtment.
