Senior Technical Specialist, Environmental Engineer

The Mining Group at Haley & Aldrich is growing, and we are seeking a Senior Technical Specialist, Environmental Engineer to work on complex projects with collaborative, multidisciplinary project teams. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated problem solver with high attention to detail and must be capable of understanding and accurately extrapolating technical instruction to solve problems and create technically accurate reclamation and remedial action studies and associated design documents with an emphasis on project management and construction management. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a temporary, on-call position located in our Helena, MT office.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop technical scopes of work and cost estimates for proposal efforts on small- to medium-sized project opportunities.
  • Manage projects involving reclamation and remedial design from characterization to design to construction oversight.
  • Manage projects involving hydrology & hydraulic studies and design documents.
  • Complete field-level survey work, sampling, and site investigations.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary project teams and nationwide company offices and client/project locations.
  • Lead project teams in developing and executing technical approaches to problem-solving, specifically as related to preparing design-phase documents, obtaining project permits, and implementing construction.
  • Perform design analyses, design calculations, and Design Drawings by functionally employing the appropriate technical software.
  • Oversee construction in remote locations.
  • Understand client needs and build and maintain trusted client relationships.
  • Coordinate with client representatives, and regulatory and external stakeholders.
  • Be capable of managing financial and technical aspects of projects.
  • Execute projects to meet technical, quality, budgetary and scheduling requirements.
  • Be effective in assigning and managing work.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or related engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience including preparation of technical scopes of work and cost estimates, design plans and technical specifications.
  • Experience working on abandoned mine sites, legacy sites, and/or Superfund projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration or P.E. track preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to technical details
  • Survey experience with preference given to those with UAV certification.
  • Water resources and stormwater design experience preferred.
  • Project management experience is essential.
  • Computer skills - Strong computer literacy skills including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient at writing, reviewing and editing technical reports to meet scope and quality objectives and client expectations.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training and refresher updates, and strong commitment to safety
  • Must be willing to travel as needed to support clients, projects, and project team collaboration.
