System One Payroll Delivery Lead / Project Manager in Cincinnati, Ohio

Title: Payroll Delivery Lead / Project Manager

Location: ALTA is supporting a contract opportunity working primarily remote, but with some travel to work hybrid onsite for a client in the Cincinnati, OH area

Position Summary:

As the Payroll Delivery Lead you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of payroll projects within the organization. This position requires a deep understanding of payroll processes, systems, and regulations, coupled with strong project management skills to drive project execution from initiation to closure. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of functional expertise in payroll operations and proven experience in project delivery within a dynamic environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Utilize comprehensive knowledge of payroll processes, regulations, and industry best practices to drive project requirements and solutions.

• Work closely with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and prioritize business requirements, translating them into actionable project plans.

• Provide subject matter expertise and guidance on payroll-related matters throughout the project lifecycle.

• Coordinate project activities, including requirement gathering, testing, deployment, and post-release support, to ensure smooth and timely delivery with minimal disruption to payroll operations.

• Manage risks, issues, and dependencies related to payroll releases, proactively identifying and mitigating potential roadblocks to project success.

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize enhancements, and define acceptance criteria for payroll system changes.

• Measure and monitor progress to ensure release scope is delivered on time and meets or exceeds defined quality stage gate criteria

• Facilitate cross-functional meetings, workshops, and status updates to provide transparency and alignment on release progress, issues, and decisions.

• Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure alignment with project objectives and timelines.

• Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to payroll systems and processes, incorporating relevant insights into project planning and execution.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.

• 10 + years of experience in functional, with a focus on payroll system implementations, upgrades, or releases.

• In-depth knowledge of payroll systems, processes, and regulations.

• Experience with [ADP/Alight/ SAP ECP/ WorkDay] is strongly preferred.

• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, release management practices, and change control processes.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across functional teams and organizational levels.

• Proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget, while maintaining high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving results and continuous improvement.

• Formal training in project management practices for both waterfall as well as Agile/DevOps methodologies

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and adapting to changing business needs.

• Interact and deal effectively with all levels of employees while maintaining a professional manner; willingness and effectiveness in challenging the status-quo.

• Payroll system certification is a plus.

• Maintains a positive work environment through teamwork & conflict resolution
