Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden Part-time Education Instructor & Arrival Facilitator: School Programs Job Description: The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden Education Department is seeking creative, enthusiastic, hardworking individuals with a strong interest in environmental education and a passion for working with children. Instructors will primarily facilitate experiences for pre-registered school groups which may include teaching animal programs, leading walking tours, and greeting and orienting schools arriving in the bus lot or entrance in the Spring. Facilitators will be the first friendly face students see, helping children develop a sense of wonder and excitement for Zoo animals and their field trip experience. Instructors will build knowledge and encourage active involvement with the conservation of wildlife and wild places through standards-based, interactive animal programs. Job Duties: Instructor responsibilities include but are not limited to: Successful completion of initial and annual Animal Handling Training and Program Training, as well as staying current on all procedures week to week as they pertain to Live animal encounters Virtual programming Guided Zoo hikes Available to teach: A minimum of 6 hours a week during school hours (9:30 AM - 2:30 PM, M-F) September-May Mornings and afternoons Instruction of school standards-based programs for a variety of ages between preK-12th grade in accordance with the provided curriculum and training. Create a positive, participatory learning environment. Setting up and breaking down classroom before and after programs. Assure a safe learning environment for ambassador animals and program participants. Facilitator responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Welcome & help guide schools during their arrival process during the months of March - June, 8:30 AM - 11:45 AM, Monday - Friday. Work closely with Visitor Experience Team to facilitate a smooth arrival for schools and buses. Answer questions about schools for students, teachers, and chaperones as groups enter the Zoo. Qualifications: Completion of high school and 18+ years of age Experience and/or strong interest in working with children including preschoolers Strong communication skills and problem-solving skills. Willingness to learn to work with a variety of animals. Successful completion of a background check and drug screen. Ability to lift 25 lbs., stand and walk for up to 3 hours, bend down, and sit on the floor Duration: Part-time weekdays, September - June To Apply: Application must include a resume and cover letter.
