Job Overview As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The department of Ophthalmology is seeking an experienced Optometrist to provide comprehensive, continuous, and personalized patient care including diagnosis, treatments and consultations in an outpatient clinical setting. This role will involve the equivalent of nine-half day clinic sessions per week in our clinical locations. There is no expectation of night call. Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills are important to this role as much of the time is spent working directly with patients and other medical team members. The Department of Ophthalmology collaborates to provide the full spectrum of ophthalmic care to our patients, and a significant focus is to develop the education, knowledge and expertise of all our providers to provide the highest level of care to our patient population. Essential Functions Manage patients with both acute and chronic vision needs. Perform appropriate history and physical for acute and chronically ill patients with eye disease. Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests. Evaluate, diagnose and provide treatment for routine and complex ophthalmological conditions, including refractive conditions, binocular functions, ocular diseases and conditions, and ocular complications of systemic diseases Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities. Monitor the effectiveness of interventions. Maintain accurate medical records. Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care and make appropriate referrals when needed. Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans. Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision making using evidence-based practice Participate in clinical research and development projects. Participate in education of optometry residents and medical students. Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. Minimum Requirements Master's of Science Degree in Vision Science. Current/valid OD license to practice with prescriptive authority in the state of Ohio prior to start. Completion of accredited Optometry residency program. Board certified or Board eligible for ABCO or ABCMO certification. Additional Qualifications Considered A minimum of one (1) year work experience as Optometrist.
