Cleaning Technologies Group Mechanical Design Engineer in Cincinnati, Ohio

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Project Manager or Senior Project Manager

Exemption Classification: Salary, Exempt

Summary: Design and engineer equipment utilizing the prepared proposal, budget and customer specifications to produce products and computer-generated drawings for fabrication while focusing on reducing cost and cycle time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM DUTIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the engineering content of one (or several) projects from project start in engineering to final acceptance by customer.

• Review engineering file prepared by sales and proposal.

• Review customer’s project specifications and use as a design tool.

• Interact and communicate with customers, project managers, vendors and the controls group as project dictates.

• Requisition all necessary purchased & stock material for machines through purchasing within proposed budget constraints.

• Support R&D initiatives.

• Design machines utilizing SolidWorks and SolidWorks EPDM (may use AutoCAD also) while following prototype and drawing standards.

• Prepare customer approval drawings.

• Prepare electrical, manufacturing and maintenance manual line up forms.

• Assist manufacturing personnel as needed to ensure smooth build of machinery.

• Work with purchasing to expedite materials when needed.

• Perform an “In House” engineering run off, debug and resolve any problems before customer run-off.

• Notify sales of upcoming customer machine runoffs.

• Drawing package generation, electrical and/or mechanical as directed.

• Follow up on items that may need to be addressed before machine ships.

• Prepare and distribute all project related documentation and correspondence.

• Responsible to support job in the field during the start-up and through the warranty period.

• Manage the Reliability and Maintainability issues for assigned jobs to meet Quality requirements.

• Responsible for departmental budget compliance.

• May assist in training of new engineering employees.

• Other functions as directed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None. May assist in the training of new employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or equivalent experience, prefer 2 to 4 years’ experience in relative field. Must have basic knowledge of computers, engineering concepts, and project management with extensive experience in Solidworks (may use AutoCAD also). Project management experience is a plus. Must have basic Microsoft products knowledge.

Language Skills: Must be able to communicate verbally and/or in writing with other employees, other departments, supervision, customers and management. Must be able to present information to groups of employees, customers, vendors etc.

Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform advanced level mathematics reasoning (algebraic formulas, trigonometry and strength of materials for example), as well as use calculations consistent with the design of equipment in the cleaning equipment industry.

Reasoning Ability: Must be able to identify work process problems and possible solutions.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Maintain local, regional and/or national membership in appropriate professional organizations/associations.

Physical Demands: Sit at workstation for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to adjust visual focus. May be required to reach, stoop and/or bend on an as needed basis. Must be able to climb stairs as necessary.

Work Environment: Work in controlled environment of office, along with traditional shop atmosphere. Can be exposed to loud noises and various fumes or smells based on job. Work around high voltage machinery.

Travel: Must be able to periodically travel to customer’s jobsite for startups, machine commissioning and warranty work as dictated by project. All projects do not require travel, most stays are from 1 to 2 days some could be more.
