Raytheon Technologies Principal Engineer, Supplier Quality (Hybrid) in Chula Vista, California

Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Engineer who manages the Supplier Quality processes and / or projects as an individual contributor. You will work to achieve objectives that have major impact(s) on the Supplier Quality organizational goals. You will also use your expertise to provide input on supplier qualification / certification, assessment, monitoring, escape management, and quality issue resolution processes. In addition, you will have direct customer interaction in support of the program.

The position will work in a hybrid capacity (onsite & offsite) in Chula Vista, CA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages supplier quality issues through monitoring / escalation processes, escape management, processing of supplier submission of non-conforming material and supporting internal MRB processes.

  • Initiates part specific quality issue resolution and corrective actions.

  • Supports supplier qualification / certification.

  • Manages source inspection and material release processes.

  • Performs Escape management procedures, drives root cause analysis & problem solving (Red-X & 8D) and recommends corrective and preventive action for systemic process and product design problems for product provided by suppliers.

  • Drives Corrective Action Boards/DQ Clinics with suppliers.

  • Analyzes quality data to identify systemic issues and develops supplier specific quality initiative strategies and addresses with key proactive quality tools (e.g. PFMEA, MSA, Process Flow and Control Plans, SPC, etc.), driving their implementation.

  • Ensures that supplier is capable to meet all requirements for work transfer and process change management including Resourcing Gate and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) acceptance.

  • Work within a cross functional team supporting the Quality organization by managing and driving to closure of their activities and schedules.

  • Travel to manufacturing sites to assist in quality CI events

  • Running and driving regular meetings with the Quality Leadership to understand status and open issues.

    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Working experience of Quality and Continuous Improvement tools

  • Experience communicating and making presentations to senior level leadership.

  • Familiar with AS9100 requirements

  • Experience with RRCA’s (Relentless Root Cause Analysis)

  • Experience MS office suite. Creating PowerPoint presentations

  • Able to travel up to 50% of the time domestically and internationally when circumstances permit

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working and interacting on a manufacturing shop floor

  • Experience working in a central quality or manufacturing organization

  • Experience leading RRCA’s

  • Experience with SAP, CATIA etc.

  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent or ACE

  • Project Engineering background

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing

  • Experience with AS9145

  • CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) Certification
