Job Overview:

Act as Lead Engineer across different types of project, from conceptual studies and FEED to large EPC projects that might include workshare with other offices and joint venture partners. Have responsibility for cost, quality and schedule. Determine the control and instrument philosophy and manage the specification of equipment to align with it. Communicate complex technical concepts and solutions to engineers and non-engineers across all disciplines. Support the training and development of others within the control and instrumentation department. Be a focal point for technical expertise with the department.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Manage teams of engineers and designers to meet contractual project requirements.

  • Be responsible for resourcing, cost and schedule for both reimbursable and lump sum projects, identifying scope changes as they arise.

  • Be accountable to both Project and Engineering Management as well as the Departmental Manager

  • Coordinate the required flow of design information between disciplines.

  • Ensure the quality and technical integrity of the instrument and control design including:

  • Defining the control and instrument philosophy including the technologies used.

  • Checking and approval of all types of design and requisitioning documentation.

  • Coordinating third parties including vendors and clients.

  • Preparation and approval of technical bid evaluations and requisitions.

  • Helping coordinate the inspection and testing of control and instrumentation equipment at manufacturer’s works.

  • Providing engineering support during construction and commissioning.

  • Prepare execution plans and estimates for proposals.

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of corporate procedures, software and standards.

  • Provide employee performance feedback to Departmental Manager as part of appraisal process

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Accredited engineering degree, preferably MEng.

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

  • Member of a Professional Institution (e.g. IET, InstMC).

  • Typically have the following level of experience: 15yrs with 3yrs as Principal

  • Proven ability of leading a team of engineers and designers within the contracting industry, preferably petrochemical or oil & gas.

  • Experience of all project phases from conceptual design to construction and commissioning support.

  • Comfortable with schedule planning and estimating workhour and material requirements.

  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and understanding of control systems and field instruments.

  • Familiarity with current codes and standards.
