We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Sr IT Project Manager on our Information Technology team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2 days a week in the office.
As a Sr IT Project Manager, you will provide senior project management and analytic skills that will help lead to the successful implementation of high-profile projects and programs. Fundamentally, this role will ensure business requirements are translated into cost-effective technology solutions that align with the AMA’s strategic roadmap. In addition, this person will help manage and mentor IT staff, creating a highly effective working team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Management
Manage medium to highly complex projects or programs and maintain project plans, status, and issues. Direct development, testing, and implementation of systems.
Create and maintain project plans, report status, and track and resolve issues.
Effectively track and manage all financial aspects of the project. Deliver projects on time and within budget which meet quality standards.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Be conversant in current methodologies (Agile, Waterfall…) in determining which is most effective for the project being initiated. Provide management, oversight, and direction for project team members.
Enforce technical direction for project solutions at the AMA.
Support other Project and Activities
Act as a lead in all phases of the Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC)for all initiatives.
Make recommendations for staff development.
Participate and manage strategic planning, budgeting, contract initiation, and cross-project resource sharing, as assigned.
Negotiate contracts for managed service providers, professional services companies, and software or hardware purchasing/licensing.
Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change.
Relationship Management
Serve as technical liaison to the Business by evaluating new requests and determining alternatives if applicable. This will include working closely with Business leaders to determine needs and leading efforts to establish the overall solution framework.
Collaborate with peers to establish and improve standard practices.
May include other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
4-year degree preferred, or equivalent work experience required.
Minimum 7 years of IT project management, strategic planning, work scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, financial management, and status reporting.
Strong knowledge and experience using both Waterfall and Agile methodologies, and an understanding of when each is appropriate.
Ability to guide technical staff and project managers on project tasks.
Proven track record of successful complex implementations that were delivered on time and within budget with minimal post-implementation issues.
PMP Certification preferred.
3+ years experience in vendor management, negotiating and managing contracts, evaluating technologies, and authoring Requests for Proposals. Experience with departmental forecasting and budgeting is a plus.
Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing. Exceptional presentation skills, with experience communicating with stakeholders in both technical and non-technical fields. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Self-managed and motivated. Detail oriented.
Keen emotional intelligence - Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
Diplomatic and professional presence and demeanor. Must demonstrate exceptional teamwork in relation to managing projects. Encourages both positive and “can-do” attitude in project work and daily operations.
Ability to work long hours, when necessary, travel, attend educational events, and meet with vendors and high-level business leaders
