Work Type: Part Time (Total FTE between 0.5 and 0.89)

Shift: Shift 1

Work Schedule: 10 Hr (9:00:00 AM - 7:30:00 PM)

Summary:

The Registered Nurse 3 is a proficient nurse possessing an in-depth knowledge of patient management; can accommodate unplanned events and can respond with efficiency, flexibility and confidence. The Registered Nurse 3 immediately sees the whole situation while being able to discriminate that which is most relevant; has developed advanced communication and collaboration skills along with system savvy. The Registered Nurse 3 assumes a leadership role in the clinical practice area, using clinical experience to serve as a role model and coach. The Registered Nurse 3 exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

EVIDENCE BASED INTERVENTIONS

  1. Ensures that staff applies current evidence based guidelines (P&P, standards of care, protocols, pathways).

  2. Seeks out current evidence based information and is accountable for sharing with peers.

  3. Participates in unit based quality initiatives to improve patient care and outcomes.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CARING

  1. Establishes a caring, therapeutic relationship with patients and families through effective communication, acknowledgement of patient/family perceptions of health and illness and mutual goal setting for optimal outcomes.

  2. Anticipates patient/ family-clinician communication breakdown and implements appropriate action to resolve.

  3. Serves as a role model by demonstrating advanced interpersonal communication and collaboration skills in the management of complex patient care situations.

  4. Resolves conflict effectively to continuously improve team relationships at the unit level.

CRITICAL THINKING

  1. Utilizes advanced assessment skills to holistically evaluate the physical and psychosocial needs of patient/family.

  2. Critically analyzes complex patient cases and effectively adapts the plan of care.

  3. Anticipates potential problems and identifies subtle changes in patient status which lead to early and effective interventions to optimize patient outcomes.

  4. Supports less experienced staff in management of complex patient situations.

  5. Provides coaching for reflection and review of complex patient situations in order to identify practical solutions.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  1. Models the safe and effective use of medical devices in the delivery of patient care.

  2. Demonstrates accountability for implementing policies related to safe and effective administration of medications.

  3. Evaluates the application of safety strategies (fall precautions, infection control, suicide risk patient identification) on the unit and initiates appropriate action to minimize risk.

  4. Models effective, sophisticated teaching strategies for patients and families.

LEADERSHIP

  1. Serves as a role model whose beliefs, attitudes and actions support unit leadership and goals.

  2. Demonstrates proficient leadership skills at the unit level.

  3. Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice, including progress toward achievement of annual goals.

Required Job Qualifications:

1.One to three years of experience

2.Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) (New graduates must have acceptance into an accredited school of nursing within 6 months from date of hire

3.Within 1 year from the date of hire, employee must be enrolled in a BSN program.

4.Bachelor’s degree in Nursing for RNs leveling to RN3 after 10/22/2020.

5.Chief Nursing Officer must provide approval for any RNs with ADN degree hired after 10/22/2020, based upon unit need. ADN RNs hired after 10/22/2020 must show continued enrolment towards a BSN degree with a signature of contract stipulating a BSN degree must be completed within 3 years of hire. ADN RNS are not eligible for leveling to RN3.

6.RNs who leveled to RN3 prior to 10/22/2020 are grandfathered in with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or diploma in nursing, with no further need to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BAN or BSN).

7.Prior to leveling to RN3, RN must show consistent proficient performance at RN2 position or equivalent experience.

8.To maintain RN3 level, all RN3 employees must submit an RN3 maintenance portfolio every 2 years showing continued performance of RN3 requirements.

9.National certification examination within 1 year of leveling to RN3. Certification must remain active to maintain RN3 level.

10.Current state of Illinois Registered Nursing License

11.CPR

12.ACLS for ICU, Telemetry, 6west, Endoscopy, PACU, IR, and ED

13.PALS for PACU and ED

14.Proficiency in charge and preceptor roles

Physical Demands:

• Ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.

• Lifting or carrying objects 35-40lbs. and lifting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs.

• Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
