AON Procurement Category Director- Corporate services and facilities in Chicago, Illinois

The Category Director leads the category strategy and drives the sourcing process to yield best value for the firm, while maintaining appropriate levels of quality, governed by contracts that minimize Aon’s risk.

This position works closely with the business units, applying the Global Spend Management sourcing and procurement policies and strategies to meet the needs of internal customer requirements. Responsible to independently manage teams of internal category / subject-matter experts through the strategic sourcing process, regardless of the specific industry the purchase is associated with, for levels of transactions of above average complexity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads cross-functional teams in the development of sourcing strategies for the assigned category by including long range objectives, performance goals and metrics for each category.

  • Collaborates with legal, privacy, Corporate Real Estate and other partners to champion and influence the sourcing initiatives.

  • Manage the overall relationship with the category suppliers, including the goals and objectives of the business.

  • Embrace the corporate supplier diversity objectives and seek to contract with diverse firms, or secure commitments from primary suppliers to subcontract / use diverse suppliers.

  • Remain involved in quarterly review meetings with supplier to stay current on opportunities and issues, validate that supplier is performing according to the contract, and be able to re-source when agreement comes due.

  • Draft and negotiate business contract language of above average complexity.

  • Assist internal client with gaining consensus for final recommendation, finalize agreement accordingly and timely, and assist with implementation / transition / communication.

  • Lead and mentor a team of Category Managers and specialists, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their capabilities and drive performance excellence.

You Bring Knowledge and Expertise

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of Corporate Real Estate, Corporate or Office Services Procurement experience that includes relationships and contracts is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Ability to work in a geographically diverse workplace

  • Must have excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to think and act strategically while engaging and implementing tactically as appropriate to get results

  • Experience working with all levels of management including “C” Level

  • Strong negotiation and world class supplier relations skills

  • Position requires some travel

  • Excellent people management skills

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $120,000 - $160,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
