Mechanical Engineer V, GY11

CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION

Design/Construction/Development Division

Number of Positions: 1

Starting Salary: $103.176.00

Under supervision, the class supervises the work of subordinate engineers engaged in assessing the operational efficiency of mechanical systems and equipment OR serves as project engineer for a variety of projects responsible for coordinating and overseeing the design, installation, maintenance and inspection of mechanical equipment and systems, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Design Review

· Review project deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, including but not limited to: drawings, reports, calculations and specifications.

· Provide analysis, recommendations and comments in alignment with codes, standards, emerging technology, and industry best practices.

Project Management

· Represent CDA as owner/client-side project manager.

· Administer and oversee project activities throughout project lifecycles.

· Coordinate & communicate with all project stakeholders and regulatory agencies.

Engineering Judgement

· Respond to technical questions, RFIs, and provide clarifications or recommendations to stakeholders using technical knowledge and external research.

· Review responses to RFPs and RFQs in support of procurement activities.

· Create associated project deliverables as required.

Contract Oversight

· Manage entities contracted to the city in architecture, engineering, & construction.

· Select consultants, designers, and professional services.

· Monitor contracted activities, deliverables, adherence, and performance.

Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a directly related field of engineering with three years of mechanical engineering work experience in the design and construction of building mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) and/or adjacent subject matters (controls, BAS, conveyance); including one year of supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Illinois is required.

NOTE: Must be flexible to early and/or late meetings and occasional weekends.

NOTE: The candidates selected for hire must pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment.

NOTE: This position requires a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.
