Job Description:

Manager, Student Academic Support Services - RMC Medical Student Programs

Position Highlights:

The Manager, Student Academic Support Services will be responsible for the organization and implementation of academic support services available to Rush Medical College (RMC) students, monitoring participation, and facilitating ongoing review with Office of Integrated Medical Education (OIME) faculty. This position will have primary responsibility for coordinating and managing academic support services for medical students. This individual will collaborate with the Office of Student Accessibility Services to facilitate monitoring and implementation of any approved student disability accommodations. The Manager, Student Academic Support Services will collaborate with faculty and staff within the OIME to implement and monitor processes that support the success of our medical students in the curriculum and in their development of a professional identity. Position Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops and administers comprehensive academic success programs

  • Manages success program for M3/M4 (clerkship students) to support student learning

  • Conducts focused intakes and assessments to identify individual learning needs

  • Supports clerkship students in developing an Individual Learning Plan

  • Designs and develops individual and group-level academic counseling services for clerkship students

  • Monitors student progress relative to Individual Learning Plans, adjusting as appropriate

  • Supports the development and implementation of USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 academic support programming

  • Conducts ongoing program evaluation to evaluate student satisfaction and program outcomes

  • Utilizes program data to make informed decisions about future programming to enhance academic support services

  • Works closely with course directors and faculty advisers to provide ongoing updates regarding student progress and implemented interventions

  • Creates and delivers professional development sessions to educate and support course directors in navigating various student concerns

  • Manages external academic support resource referral process for identified USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 at-risk students

  • Meets with students referred to academic support services by OIME faculty and/or Committee on Student Evaluation and Promotion (COSEP)

  • Maintains accurate documentation regarding support services recommended and utilized

  • Organizes counseling services reports; provides summaries for COSEP meetings as appropriate

  • Maintains database of records related to academic support services

  • Develops and manages a network of peer educators available to students for support within the clerkship curriculum

  • Recruits, onboards, trains, and manages M4 peer educators and resident educators

  • Facilitates communication and program direction between M4 peer educators, resident educators and clinical course directors

  • Promotes peer and resident education resources to clerkship students

  • Collaborates with Office of Student Accessibility Services to support student learning

  • Develops formalized process and programming for students taking a Leave of Absence (LOA) and returning to the curriculum (and facilitates/executes the same with appropriate leadership)

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required, with preferred emphasis on education, counseling, learning differences, educational psychology or advising

  • 3-5 years of experience in student support services, higher education, or counseling preferred.

  • Experience with standardized test preparation

  • Experience with learning differences

  • Knowledge of learning processes theory and practice

  • Demonstrated initiative, and ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks and projects

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Dependable and efficient

  • Works with faculty, staff, and students in a congenial and collaborative manner

  • Exemplary professionalism in dealing with interpersonal issues and confidential matters

  • Awareness of his/her role in projecting a positive image of RMC in all affairs
