The role of the Global Power Generation Technical Specialist as part of the Technical Integration Group is critical to what we do at AIG, both as a risk management resource to our clients and as a leading global insurance organization. Risk Engineering Technical Specialist are responsible for working with clients, underwriters, and risk engineers to identify and mitigate risks to their business such as fire, flood, windstorm, equipment breakdown etc.

A Day in the Life

Looking for variety and a challenge? One day you may be helping an Account Risk Engineer understand the power generation equipment risk of loss within an account, the next day you may be helping an underwriter on new account evaluation or writing internal technical document resources.

How you create an impact:

  • Support underwriting in evaluation of power generation occupancy risk including specific rotating equipment.

  • Perform property loss prevention reviews on power generation accounts.

  • Manage training and personnel development within power generation team and establish and maintain a training and develop plans.

  • Work closely with underwriting to obtain and maintain clients.

  • Contribute to the development of technical risk engineering guidelines, bulletins, processes, and tools.

  • Partner with Distribution and Underwriting to enhance client relationships and promote engineering capabilities.

  • Provide engineering data system support/guidance and stay abreast of system related issues.

  • Maintain current industry knowledge of losses and developing technology.

  • Work with regional and zonal Risk Engineering Managers to support TIG in the continued development of globally consistent client support and risk reviews.

    What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of highly protected risk, specialized industry and/or boiler and machinery field experience

  • Coal Rotation Power Plant and Gas Turbine experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or equivalent industry knowledge

  • Strong communication skills-both oral and written 

  • Ability to manage schedule with quick response to requests which could “off hour” responses and occasional on-line meetings attendance.

  • Ability/willingness to travel to client and account meetings as wells as technical conferences on occasion as requested.

    Hard Skills:

  • Professional Engineer, Certified Fire Protection Specialist Designation, or similar (desired but not required)

  • Ability to perform reviews of buildings and other structures.

  • Ability to read risk reports, construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Obtain feedback from Property/EER Underwriting Managers to complete annual performance reviews of Field Risk Engineers

  • Monitor workflows for all countries within area of responsibility, including those without a resident engineer.

  • Ability to perform physical activities required for the position (i.e., be on feet and walking 8-10 hours a day, safely work at heights)

  • Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards.

  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to wear safety equipment required for the position if mentoring at survey (hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection)

  • Ability to perform physical activities required for the position- including being able to type at a computer for 8 hours a day with 3 or 4, 15-minute breaks doing other work and a lunch break interspersed.

  • Ability/willingness to be on-line on Teams (and green when not in meetings) daily when working operating as part of the immediate-access TIG ARE and FRE support team.
