Job Description

Join Our Team as an EHS Coordinator and Make a Meaningful Impact on Environmental Safety and Compliance at Grace! We are hiring an EHS Coordinator for our Chicago, IL location, reporting directly to the Environmental Health Safety and Security (EHS&S) Manager. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary coordinator for our environmental compliance programs and play a key part in fostering a culture of engagement and excellence in EHS&S at our site.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in collection of operational emissions data required for air permit.

  • Prepare monthly, semi-annual, annual, and on demand reports for compliance with air permit.

  • Coordinate and oversee monthly wastewater sampling, prepare and/or review associated reports.

  • Maintain emergency response plans such as SPCC and conduct training for facility personnel in accordance with requirements.

  • Work cooperatively with operations and logistics to identify recycle / reuse / disposal options for waste materials.

  • Manage the daily inspection, generation, loading, transportation, disposal, and manifest documentation of all solid, special, and hazardous waste.

  • Respond to emergencies related to spills with potential impact to the environment.

  • Oversee implementation of the asbestos management plan including regular inspections and mitigation as required.

  • Identify and mitigate emerging environmental risks while maintaining compliance with current regulatory structure.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials

  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.

  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Environmental Science, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of professional experience with a focus on Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) practices and regulations

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with EHS management software.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Environmental experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred

  • Certifications: OSHA certification or similar EHS certification is required, demonstrating knowledge of health and safety regulations.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and ANSI standards, with the ability to interpret safety data sheets.

  • Strong Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) regulations, including OSHA standards and environmental compliance, ensuring a thorough understanding of industry requirements that support a safe and inclusive workplace.

  • Polished Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, capable of conveying complex technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, fostering understanding and collaboration among individuals from various backgrounds and experiences.

  • Effective Presentation Skills: Proficient in creating and delivering engaging presentations that effectively communicate EHS initiatives, compliance updates, and training programs, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all participants.

  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, ensuring timely completion of reports, audits, and training sessions while maintaining meticulous documentation that reflects diverse perspectives.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal abilities that facilitate collaboration and relationship-building with colleagues at all levels, enhancing teamwork and promoting a culture of safety, respect, and inclusion.

  • Detail-Oriented Approach: Keen attention to detail in all communications and documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards while being mindful of the diverse needs of all stakeholders.

  • Proactive Problem-Solver: Ability to identify potential EHS issues and communicate actionable solutions effectively, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement, safety excellence, and equitable practices that benefit the entire community.
