ECMO Specialist- Full Time, Nights
Rush University Medical Center presents an exciting opportunity for an ECMO Specialist. The ECMO Specialist manages the extracorporeal circuit for patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Position Responsibilities:
Monitors the extracorporeal circuit.
Ensures adequate organ and tissue perfusion and oxygenation of the ECMO patient.
Troubleshoots and replaces malfunctioning components of the extracorporeal circuit, which may include emergent, life-threatening situations.
Under the director of a physician, is responsible for administration of fluids and/or blood products via the extracorporeal circuit.
Testing and maintain of adequate anti-coagulation.
Taking scheduled call shifts
The ability to work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team involved in the management and care of a patient on ECMO.
Position Qualifications Include:
Current State of Illinois licensure as a Registered Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist, or Certified Clinical Perfusionist.
Working knowledge of adult, neonatal and pediatric congenital heart disease and physiology.
Experience in an adult, pediatric or neonatal critical care setting.
1 year of ECMO experience in a hospital setting
Satisfactory completion of RUMC ECMO specialist training program
Ability to work in a complex clinical environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a highly stressful work environment, where attention to detail is necessary to prevent patient morbidity and mortality.
High level of analytical ability.
Working knowledge of computers.
BLS Certification
