The Director of Safety & Health provides strategic leadership and overall direction and guidance for the Safety of our plant employees & contractors supporting our plant operations. The DOS&H has two principal responsibilities that require equal excellence.

The first is to create & drive a people engagement strategy to connect with all operational personnel from the individuals in our plant workforce up through divisional leadership. The strategy systematically and routinely requests feedback and fosters dialogue on improving Safety environment. Communication leads to actionable training delivery and effective action plans to improve Safety behavior and performance. The engagement requires messaging that demonstrate a passion and caring for safe operation in a very disciplined daily manner by all. The DOS&H must visibly engage with all levels but also create the culture & process for all personnel to do the same.

The second principal responsibility of the DOS & H is to implement Engineering controls and a disciplined Safety risk assessment & elimination routine methodology culture. The hierarchy of risk requires technical thinking to properly remediate hazards. The risk assessment would also include ensuring that security and loss risk systems and methods are in place to protect our employees, visitors and assets. Establishing a culture that understands and routinely applies these principles is critical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Safety & Health compliance systems and programs to ensure full compliance with regulations and company requirements.
  • Represent the company with state and federal agencies for Safety & Health matters.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to manufacturing facilities and ensure compliance systems are adequate to track and document compliance status.
  • Prepare strategic and tactical safety, health and security improvement plans for manufacturing facilities. A highly disciplined and structured approach must be applied.
  • Develops and implements Safety & Health strategies, policies, practices, and action plans to ensure success.
  • Audits, analyzes, and reports on Safety & Health Behaviors and Systems deficiencies; develops preventive actions.
  • Effectively implements and leverages an ISO 45001 system and requirements to drive performance improvements.
  • Creates a data driven and disciplined preventive action culture to drive performance improvement.
  • Develops, delivers, and drives effective training on Safety & Health.
  • Creates, implements, and drives Risk Hazard processes with disciplined schedules and preventive actions to improve Safety & Health performance.
  • Drives Safety councils at division and plant levels.
  • Fosters understanding and accountability to Safety & Health programs, requirements, and actions.
  • Defines resource plans for success: Capex, Opex, resources.
  • Develops and holds plants and S&H leaders accountable for performance. Ensures proper personnel are in position.
  • Works with Environmental leadership in collaboration for ISO 14001
  • Works with Environmental leadership in collaboration for EHS Data delivery, monitoring, and improvement activities.
  • Works with Environmental leadership in collaboration for regulatory engagements as needed.
  • Interface with Group Risk on Safety, Health, loss risk & Security matters.
  • Supports Business Continuity process as pertinent.
  • Engages with Business on project work as pertinent.

Requirements:

Bachelor\'s degree required. Engineering discipline preferred.

Master\'s degree preferred.

Occupational Health & Safety education is desirable but will not supersede operational experience requirements.

Experience with OSHA, Workmen\'s compensation and Safety certifications are desirable but will not supersede operational experience requirements.

In the event the Safety education and certifications are not achieved, a requirement to acquire specific certifications on an agreed schedule post hire is expected (e.g. obtain CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification w/i 3 years and OSHA coursework in shorter term).

Operations experience required. Must have experience in managing plant Engineering/maintenance function and plant production management.

Ideal Plant experience is in a beverage Can manufacturing facility. Experience in a similar type manufacturing environment may be considered: high speed, continuous, with similar process & material type hazards.

Individual must understand the principles of operation of equipment, controls, and maintenance. Must understand Safety Engineering principles and be able to implement a technical improvement strategy.

Individual must understand the operating and maintenance personnel interface with plant equipment and material hazards and be able to apply risk assessment tools and implement remediation actions.
