The Community Development Specialist-Relationship Manager (RM) position is responsible for bringing new small business relationships to the bank as well as maintaining and growing existing small business relationships within Chicago's North Side communities. The position will be responsible for the following key areas: a) Small Business Lending activities; b) Community Outreach; c) Entrepreneurial Training and other Partner development to increase referral activities. The position will focus on building relationships with small businesses located in low-to-moderate income census tracts within the Bank’s CRA assessment areas. Targeted small businesses are those with annual revenues under $1 MM. The RM will directly manage all credit exposures. The RM will be directly involved in the credit decision process and must review financial information to discuss trends.

What you'll be doing

  • Work with Community Development Portfolio Manager and Client Specialist to underwrite and originate Community Development small business loans.

  • Present targeted CIBC lending programs to community groups, attending civic and non-profit functions representing CIBC.

  • Develop and maintain a network of community partners, including Entrepreneurial Training Partners to provide referral opportunities.

  • Actively refer business opportunities to Retail Banking Centers and other internal bank partners which results in closed business for that area.

  • Understanding of Community Development loan programs and products, Depository core products.

  • Monitor and manage client accounts for payment and maturity past dues, overdrafts, future maturing loans, closed accounts, etc.

  • Active Community Involvement in a leadership role.

  • Active participation in Group Sales Meetings with sharing of success stories, difficulties, suggestions for improvements in the process that will benefit the group.

Knowledge and Skills

  • College degree with 3-5 years of relevant work experience in Business Lending or Community Development.

  • Ability to present in front of groups.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong desire to work with small businesses from start-up, emerging business and established business levels.

  • Purpose driven, self-starter with initiative strong organizational skills.

  • Comfort level working in a hybrid environment (remote and in-office).

  • Represent CIBC at various community functions.

  • Formal credit training preferred.
