Summary:

The AVP of Rush Experience, Learning, Development and Wellness reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer plays an integral role within the Rush system by leading key employee-related programming within the areas of Employee Experience, Learning & Development, and Wellness. This role develops and aligns strategy, people, and processes through impactful and innovative programming efforts. This position leads teams that will identify, set, and deliver on best-in-class programming initiatives from the initial guidance stage to execution.

Required Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• At least ten years of relevant work experience required.

• Broad understanding of complex health strategies and issues challenging the field of academic medicine.

• Prior people management experience required.

• Demonstrated expertise in negotiation, coaching, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to partner with individuals at all levels of the organization.

• Strong organizational, program management, presentation, and communication skills.

• Ability to analyze, model, and interpret data and share actionable insights with senior leaders.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Master’s degree.

• Prior experience working in complex academic medical center environments.

Responsibilities:

General:

• Leads, recruits, develops, and mentors a diverse team of exceptional people, fostering a culture of ownership, efficiency, transparency, driven by ICARE values.

• Maintains a system focus, ensuring that programs, initiatives, policies, and procedures across the span of control are systematized and applicable to all entities within the Rush system.

• Keeps abreast of industry-leading development trends through benchmarking, external partnerships, and industry affiliations, ensuring the team is delivering relevant, impactful and innovative content.

• Researches, develops, and relies on industry-relevant metrics to evaluate and improve programmatic offerings and initiatives; uses this data to “tell the story”

• Partners closely across the organization, developing relationships with leadership and HR Centers of Excellence to create strategies to help close organizational gaps.

• Manages department communications and budgets to support team engagement and program success, including identifying and executing business development opportunities externally and within Rush Philanthropy.

• Builds national reputation and ensures awareness of RUSH employee programs and resources available via Communications, including media presence through interviews, articles, etc.

Employee Experience, Clinician & Faculty Experience:

• Develop and oversee strategy and programming for Employee Engagement, Performance Management, Change Management, Leadership and Employee Development, Onboarding / Off boarding, and Rewards and Recognition.

• Create and drive strategies for enhancing employee experience and engagement, aligning with Rush’s mission and values.

• Delivers a RUSH Medical Group and Rush University Faculty experience departmental plan to support key priorities within each core program.

• Create and implement tailored communications to increase education and process adoption.

Learning & Development:

• Design and implement enterprise-wide training and development aligned with business needs within the areas of leader and manager training, succession planning, career pathway planning, annual and ongoing learning and development programs, and coaching. Identifies and leaders other learning & development opportunities across the system.

• Partners with business leaders and HR Centers of Excellence to ensure that learning needs are being captured, analyzed, and met; leads the development of just-in-time learning programs to address themes across identified organizational vulnerable areas.

• Incorporates Diversity, Equity & Inclusion into learning programs to achieve alignment with Rush’s priorities and to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and mandates.

• Evaluates programs to assess learning effectiveness and implements improvements based on participant feedback, including defined measures of success and expected business impact, keeping key stakeholders informed and engaged with learning investment.

• Leads curriculum development, curation, and delivery; provides oversight for marketing, enrolling, evaluating, and monitoring participants' progress.

• Creates executive-level development programs, such as RUSH Leadership Development Series.

• Manages the Learning Management System, including developing and executing new hire and annual mandatory training campaigns, and any other course needs.

• Builds succession planning framework and implements processes to support development and retention in focus areas, including the identification and development of highly performing employees.

• Leads organization’s executive coach programming efforts.

• Develops, implements and oversees ongoing training efforts to support our community partnerships relative to workforce development.

Wellness & Fitness:

• As leader of the Center for Clinical Wellness, develops and implements a strategy for health and wellness across the organization, including strategic planning, programming and budgeting systemwide.

• Leads, develops, and maintains Health and Wellness programming and activities to encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce risk by addressing issues such as burnout, joy in work, and systemic and individual resilience.

• Leads the RUMC/ ROPH Fitness Center and associated strategic plan and program offerings.

• Regularly evaluates the program components to identify new opportunities, developed internally or discovered via continuous monitoring of nationwide trends and best practices; partners with external organizations as needed.

• Leads mental health and wellness initiatives for Rush University, including leadership of urgent assistance process for students, mental health and wellness committee, evaluation of Rush University policies, and student events promoting health and wellness.

• Develops and supports implementation of RUSH protocols for internal mental health crisis response, including employee and student threats of self-harm and harm to others.

• Oversees research program to demonstrate efficacy of health and wellness services, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or grant publications.
