The Role

Hyatt’s Risk Management team is seeking a talented individual for the position of Associate Vice President of Claims. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the VP of Risk Management, and Hyatt’s Litigation Team, and serve as a legal liaison. You will lead a team of directors, managers, and specialists within the Claims Department, and set the strategy, direction, and approach to managing all aspects related to claims, such as establishing processes, tools, and relationships with vendors (contracts, rates, etc.), managing department budget, monitoring operations and team performance, and acting as the last point of escalation for issues as they arise.

Your primary responsibility will be to proactively identify claims at risk for litigation and collaborate and partner with Claims Adjusters and the Hyatt Litigation Team to develop and implement litigation prevention strategies. You will provide insight and feedback into claims strategies, handling, and case management to improve the quality of our case management and decrease the volume and severity of litigated claims.

•Oversee claims operations to ensure timely and adequate response to and processing of claims to minimize risk and legal exposure. Activities include but are not limited to, timely reviewing venue, partnering with Hyatt legal and other functions, and providing guidance on settlement authority.

•Review attorney work produced by internal and/or external counsel to ensure organizational guidelines are met; review team member’s work based on risk potential for the organization.

•Enabling Delivery of the Best Possible Claim Outcomes: Proactively identifying claims at risk for litigation and partnering with outside counsel, adjuster, and Hyatt Legal to determine an appropriate plan of action based on risk, brand protection, value, and anticipated outcome.

•Work with business leaders, safety and security to identify and discuss trends, review processes, analyze safety/security/technology/process investments and related ROI, and develop action plans to address issues.

•Collaborating with Stakeholders Across the Organization: Partnering with stakeholders across the organization to gain insight, gather feedback, and ensure alignment on litigation prevention strategies.

•Grow Expertise: Providing insight and feedback into claims strategies, handling, and case management to improve the quality of case management; Educating the organization on jurisdictional specific legal nuances that should be considered when investigating, evaluating, and negotiating a claim.

•Delivering on Key Performance Objectives: Ensuring performance expectations are met by monitoring various reports, and reviewing key metrics and trends to proactively identify and address gaps.

•Leveraging Data Analytics to Develop and Implement Business Strategies: Leveraging data analytics and insights to develop and implement strategic business initiatives that reduce the number of claims that move into litigation.

•Driving Continuous Improvement: Creating a feedback loop that will promote and drive process improvements.

•Provide management guidance, coaching, and mentoring to team members, as needed, including other personnel actions (e.g., performance evaluations, hiring).

Qualifications:

Experience Required:

•10 years of property and casualty claims experience; other related experience can be considered.

•10 years of management and leadership experience. Strong leader experienced in managing a team of subject matter experts and external vendors.

•Strong communication (verbal and written) and influencing skills.

•Deep understanding of claims – successful track record of preventing and managing complex claims.

•Experience managing a team of subject-matter experts.

•Ability to formulate rationale and explain position.

•Ability to make independent, time-sensitive decisions.

•Ability to influence business leaders and impact decision-making.

•Strong collaborator who can work across functions internally and externally.

•Strong executive presence and presentation skills

•Candidate must have excellent project management skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a part of a cross-functional team, superior interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic and growing company. Strong communication (oral and written), organization, analytic, and computer (Word, Excel, and Internet) skills are each a must.

Experience Preferred:

•The preferred candidate will a degree from a four-year college with a strong academic performance and an interest in learning more about the practice of law.

•Juris Doctorate (J.D.) preferred
