Pay Range: $32.00 - $52.08 per hour

Summary:

The Associate Director of Philanthropy Communications will enhance the visibility of Rush’s philanthropic efforts by coordinating and maximizing the use of compelling donor-focused content. This position involves working alongside the Senior Visual Design Strategist to coordinate and project manage the Office of Philanthropy’s complex graphic design projects, spanning event invitations and collateral, impact reports, annual giving appeals, stewardship publications and more. The Associate Director also supports the fundraising and donor engagement efforts of Rush’s Office of Philanthropy by sharing content about the impact of philanthropy on Rush’s social media channels; tracking and monitoring next steps on communication plans; and using analytics to help the Office of Philanthropy’s Strategic Development Communications team evaluate and subsequently refine communication strategies. The Associate Director of Philanthropy Communications exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field

  • Five or more years of experience in communications, project management or a related role

  • Excellent writing, speaking and listening skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills and attention to detail

  • Experience analyzing and applying engagement data for continual performance improvement

  • Demonstrated experience shepherding multiple projects with overlapping deadlines from inception to delivery

  • Experience working collaboratively on communications-related deliverables; welcomes constructive criticism and strives for continuous improvement

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Professional; experience working in project management systems; and a willingness to learn new technology

  • Proficiency in social media platforms and content management systems

  • Professional demeanor

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Experience with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite)

  • Experience working in a health care, higher education or nonprofit setting

  • Experience building awareness of and reinforcing brand standards

  • Familiarity with philanthropy and fundraising communications

Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: In close collaboration with Rush’s graphic design team, coordinate the production process for Office of Philanthropy design projects in Rush’s project management system. Work with teams across the department to document clear roles and responsibilities, realistic production schedules, required assets and creative briefs, and all necessary project approvals. Proactively identify and respond to risks to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Collaborate with the Senior Visual Design Strategist and external vendors to obtain necessary cost estimates for complex print projects and other deliverables to manage against established budgets. Serve as the department superuser for the project management system, maintaining how-to resources and workflows, account access for active users and onboarding/training for new staff. Work closely with the Executive Director of Strategic Development Communications and other functional leaders on the team to monitor progress on complex communication plans for announcements of significant gifts and other philanthropic initiatives. Maintain up-to-date information about the Office of Philanthropy’s external vendors and independent contractors — printers, mailing houses, writers, designers, photographers and others — proactively working with the department’s Business Operations team to process and update purchase orders and master service agreements with these vendors as needed.

  • Philanthropy-Focused Social Media: Proactively identify opportunities to repackage and share completed philanthropy content on social media; drawing from approved philanthropy stories, impact reports, videos, appeals and other projects, partner with other Philanthropy communications team members to develop posts with engaging content about the impact of philanthropy for Rush’s various social media channels. Support giving campaigns and philanthropic events by drafting social posts that build awareness of and promote these initiatives. Coordinate with Rush Marketing Communications in planning timing and strategy for various posts and manage approval processes for posts with key stakeholders. In close collaboration with Rush’s Office of Marketing Communications, ensure all content aligns with Rush’s branding guidelines and social media strategy. Support the Office of Philanthropy’s use of Rush’s social media advocacy platform to facilitate amplification of relevant social posts by Office of Philanthropy staff and other key stakeholders. As needed, provide counsel to Philanthropy colleagues managing social media platforms for specific constituency groups.

  • Content Distribution and Coordination: Distribute completed Strategic Development Communications content — stories, videos, impact reports, talking points, one-pagers and more — to Philanthropy staff and other key stakeholders. Work with colleagues within Philanthropy’s Strategic Development Communications team to ensure content is well-organized and easily searchable for continued reference. Ensure completed versions of all design projects are shared with the Rush Archives for central documentation. Convene and manage the agenda for the department’s monthly Philanthropy Production Meeting, where teams across the department discuss relevant updates and information regarding design processes, brand standards, editorial guidelines and the calendar for outgoing communications.

  • Performance Tracking: Use social media engagement data, Google Analytics data, and email analytics to monitor and report on the performance of social media campaigns, email touchpoints and other communication efforts. Work closely with colleagues on the Strategic Development Communications team to use analytics to refine and improve communication strategies.

  • Implement special projects and perform other duties as needed.
