ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
SAICs Department of Art Therapy and Counseling offers a three-year, 60-credit, Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling (MAATC) degree with an enrollment of 70 graduate students. The program currently has 3 full-time faculty and 24 part-time faculty, offering undergraduate and graduate courses each year, including extensive supervised fieldwork experiences at the graduate level. The MAATC program is in compliance with the nationally established standards and accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
The MAATC program focuses on providing an art therapy and counseling education that prepares artist-art therapists to practice in specialized settings within a socio-cultural context. The program was established in 1981 and has been approved by the American Art Therapy Association since 1989. ABOUT THE POSITION
The Associate Director of Clinical Education oversees the practicum and internship experiences for the students in the Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establishes practicum/internship affiliations with appropriate clinical or experiential settings;
- Provides oversight of the practicum/internship experience; Maintains communication with sites regarding educational standards and requirements
- Coordination of contracts with sites & work with SAIC risk management office on insurance requirements
- Manages fieldwork application and placement process with students and site supervisors
- Liaise with the international students and SAIC international students services to ensure appropriate paperwork when students are in the field
- Consults with students and faculty who are encountering problems/concerns related to a fieldwork placement and assist with developing resolutions
- Maintains entry and dissemination of fieldwork placement data including the relevant portions of the Tevera software database
- Follow up with necessary materials for supervisor continuing education resources
- Maintain and distribute Fieldwork Guidelines/Handbook
- Participate in faculty meetings as requested by the Department Chair
- Adheres to all confidentiality requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk/working on a computer
- Works a flexible schedule that may include weekends or evenings
- Travel, as needed, throughout the Chicagoland area
- Current, valid drivers license required
