Position Summary:

The AVP, Business Information Analytics will lead the Data Solutions & Engineering team for a designated line of business within Kemper’s P&C division. Sitting in the business, this role serves as a key bridge between business and IT, aligning our data architecture to specific business needs. The AVP will partner with business leaders across Product, Pricing, Sales, Finance and Operations to ensure that data and technology priorities are always in alignment with business priorities. Additionally, the AVP will build partnerships across IT to ensure that business solutions are seamlessly transferred to IT production assets. The individual in this role will be an advocate for data and analytics within Kemper P&C and will foster a healthy balance between delivering quick-win solutions and ensuring that we are building for the future.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of business data marts and analytic data stores for end user self-service analytics and custom reporting solutions

  • Develop and form a deep understanding of opportunities or challenges, translating them into actionable definitions (user stories, use cases, architecture sketches etc.) of solution concepts

  • Serve as Business Lead for major data & analytics initiatives providing direction and guidance to multi-disciplinary teams

  • Work with subject matter experts from actuarial, product, finance, and other areas to identify common reporting and/or analytic needs and develop solutions that yield a consistent view across the line of business

  • Lead business analytics teams in the development of data assets to meet near term needs utilizing analytics prototypes, POCs, Pilots, and sandbox environments

  • Identify the optimal development plan which may include hands on development or partnering with IT to implement a solution

  • Lead the effort to build/enhance processes that allow for a seamless transition from business-driven development to automated and controlled assets managed by IT

  • Partner closely with the IT Enterprise Architecture organization to ensure alignment between the IS application roadmap and the company’s data strategy

Position Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or related field, or the equivalent in related work experience.

  • 10+ years of experience delivering data & analytics solutions in increasingly complex environments

  • 5+ years of experience in the insurance industry

  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Broad range of technical proficiency and demonstrated ability to adapt to the available tools to solve business problems (SQL/T-SQL, SSIS, ASP.NET, C#, VBA, Python, R, SAS, SPSS, Spark, Tableau)

  • Experience in product, data science, or actuarial roles within the P&C Insurance industry

  • Served in a lead role on large, enterprise scale data and analytics projects/programs

  • Experience in a cloud-based data environment

  • Will be able to implement enhancements with minimal guidance from others

  • Interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to span from senior leaders to hands on operators to understand challenges and develop solutions

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with an ability to present and discuss technical information in an understandable, concise manner

  • Collaborative in approach and builds bridges between self and amongst others

  • Ability to lead and navigate cross-functional teams to complete projects under time demands
