Job Description

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The Youth Transition ProgramsAssistant Manager provides administrative and programmatic support to the Youth Transition ProgramsManager in planning and organizing programs and services for Chicagoland’s teens and young adults who are blind, vision impaired, or otherwise disabled. The responsibilities of this position include data collection, advertising and recruitment support, facilitating and maintaining communication between the Program Manager, participants, and stakeholders, and supporting the creation and management of program schedules. The Youth Transition Assistant Manager works with individual participants to assist in their achievement of program outcomes. The Youth Transition Program Assistant Manager works directly with, and reports to, the Youth Transition ProgramsManager.

SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Effectively plan and provide programming for youth participants in the Youth Transition programs;

  • Help strategize and implement outreach, advertisement, and recruitment of both youth participants and seasonal staff for Youth Transition programming;

  • Collaborate with theYouth Transition ProgramsManagerin the identification and placement of youth and seasonal staff applicants within Youth Transition programming;

  • Identifies individual need for and helps secure barrier reduction and supportive services, including referrals for additional support, to ensure successful placement of enrolled participants ;

  • Conducts intake assessments for incoming participants;

  • Maintain open and effective communication with programming partners to ensure the effective growth and execution of all programs;

  • Maintain youth participant records according to state, city, and agency standards and within designated systems;

  • Support the evaluation of program effectiveness in meeting participant and family needs;

  • Collaborate with other program managers regarding contract requirements and program reports;

  • Present agency programs and serve as an advocate for youth with a variety of employers, community and/or professional groups;

  • Other duties as assigned by theYouth Transition ProgramsManager.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Education, Communication, or related field (i.e. Sociology, Psychology) required;

  • Academic concentration in Special Education and/or experience working with children or youth with disabilities preferred;

  • 1-2 years Program administration experience preferred;

  • Knowledge and experience with the grant writing process preferred;

  • Experience working with children and youth who have low-vision blindness or other disabilities preferred;

  • Strong interpersonal skills;

  • Willingness to learn new systems;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft, Excel and Internet;
