Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for an Assistant Electrical Engineer to join our growing Underground and Submarine Cables (UGSC) business line. The Assistant Electrical Engineer will assist in the design of 2.4kV to 69kV electric utility distribution projects with the project teams.
This role requires the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize work. The position will be responsible for a variety of challenging duties including project development, project estimation, internal project leadership, and the technical expertise to deliver on complex utility distribution projects. This position will require interface with utility clients and collaboration with multiple Burns & McDonnell offices. Job Duties:
Prepare and develop distribution voltage construction packages for distribution systems utilizing client standards of underground distribution facilities including new equipment installation, cable replacement, new feeder design, overhead to underground conversions, new manhole and conduit installation.
Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction.
Develop routing for the design of low to medium voltage distribution lines using software such as CAD, GIS, and mapping software.
Work closely with the project team to ensure that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.
Prepare calculations and assist with equipment specifications.
Assist in the preparation of proposals, engineering/project cost estimates, and execution schedules.
Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of experience.
Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) strongly preferred.
Previous internship and/or related experience preferred.
Basic knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Basic computer skills include AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
