Ambulatory RN 2 - Bariatric Surgery

The Ambulatory RN 2 identifies patterns of patient responses and can use past experiences to implement solutions for current situations. The Ambulatory RN 2 is a competent nurse who has mastered technical skills and utilizes evidence-based interventions. The Ambulatory RN 2 continues to collaborate with other members of the health care team when the need for assistance is identified. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Position Highlights:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and provide primary nursing care for adults

  • Assist with significant phone triage and scheduling appointments utilizing your knowledge, compassion and excellent communication skills

  • Complete bariatric patients work ups: complete pre and post procedures following department guidelines.

  • Continue to contribute to positive patient outcomes by providing expert preoperative teaching

  • Administer medications and treatments

  • Call patients regarding follow-up, test results, medical instruction, and patient education under the direction of a Physician or Mid-Level Practitioner

  • Educate patients and family members about disease process, treatment modalities, medications, home care, procedures, and follow-up recommendations

  • Identify and participate in QI activities

Position Qualifications Include:

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.

  • Three years' nursing experience.

  • Earned Nursing Degree at the Baccalaureate level or higher for those hired after January 1, 2014.

  • All transfers to Rush University Medical Center or Rush University Medical Group from other Rush entities must have an earned nursing degree at the baccalaureate level or higher prior to the transfer.

  • Current CPR Certification.

  • Oncologic Infusion RN2: Current ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Course Certificate or APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy provider card (pediatric infusion) OR obtain the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Course Certificate OR APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy provider card (pediatric infusion) within 6 months of hire/transfer

  • Non-Oncologic Infusion RN2: Current ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Course Certificate, ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy: Fundamentals of Administration provider card, or Certified Registered Nurse of Infusion (CRNI) OR obtain the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Course Certificate, ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy: Fundamentals of Administration provider card, or Certified Registered Nurse of Infusion (CRNI) within 6 months of hire/transfer.

  • Analytical ability.

  • Communication skills in order to lead and teach.

  • Ability to interact effectively with others in difficult situations.

  • The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data, and closely examine specimens, images or reports.
