Uber 2025 Risk Operations MBA Intern, US in Chicago, Illinois
About the Role
Uber is looking for highly motivated students to join our Risk Group team as an intern this Summer (12 weeks). As a Risk Operations Intern, you will play a pivotal role in tackling real-world fraud challenges across Uber's global platform. You will leverage technology and data to develop or enhance solutions that detect, prevent, and mitigate fraudulent activities impacting spenders, earners, merchants, and the broader Uber ecosystem.
What You'll Do
Work on a high-impact, live business problem related to fraud and risk operations, ensuring Uber's platform remains secure and trustworthy.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams , including Risk Strategy, Product, Engineering, and Data Science, to define problem statements and develop scalable solutions.
Conduct industry research, competitive analysis, and user experience mapping to understand fraud trends and vulnerabilities
Develop a data-driven approach using SQL to assess fraud risks, exploring automation and machine learning capabilities to enhance detection and prevention .
Operationalize your solution by partnering with Product Managers and Engineering teams, ensuring seamless implementation across all Uber markets.
Basic Qualifications
Currently enrolled as a first-year MBA student, expected to graduate in 2026
Experience in problem-solving and proposing outstanding solutions to complex issues
Ability to use data to develop insights and measure performance
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in strategy, operations, fraud and risk management
Experience working closely and communicating optimally with a diverse set of stakeholders in a constantly evolving, rapid growth environment with tight deadlines
Demonstrated experience interpreting and presenting data to various audiences.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to synthesize a lot of information quickly, highlight key take-aways, and disseminate meaningful insights
Proficient in using SQL
Ability to work with and efficiently communicate with a large number of cross-functional stakeholders across different levels and parts of the organization
Self-motivated with a proven track record to take initiative in a fast paced environment
About the Team
The Risk Operations team is responsible for safeguarding $160B+ in gross bookings and ensuring the integrity of 11B+ trips across Uber's platform in over 70 countries. We tackle critical challenges such as payment fraud, fraudulent refunds and appeasements, and earner fraud, directly impacting Uber's financial health and user trust.
As the owners of Risk, we work closely with a highly skilled cross-functional team, including Risk Product, Risk Data Science, Risk Engineering, Risk Product Ops, and Risk Machine Learning, along with other key stakeholders. Together, we develop and implement cutting-edge solutions to proactively detect and mitigate fraud, ensuring a secure and seamless experience for Uber's global community.
For Chicago, IL-based roles: The base hourly rate amount for this role is USD$45.00 per hour. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
