Staff Engineer

JOB TITLE: Staff Engineer CLASSIFICATION: Exempt DEPARTMENT: Engineering SUPERVISOR: City Engineer and Deputy City Engineer SALARY: $62,151 to $87,012 Annually

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Perform the technical review of plans, reports, and specifications; to design and administer engineering projects; respond to citizen concerns; and to provide complex and administrative support to the City Engineer and or the Public Works Director. Exercise higher level decision making related to stormwater analysis and design.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review engineering and planning documents, reports, and construction plans for development and City projects, including plats, site plans, and right-of-way vacation requests and construction plans to assure compliance with City standards and ordinances.
  • Conduct research on State laws and City Code Administrative procedures; represent the department and the City to other departments, divisions, and the general public; make presentations and perform surveys and data reduction; provide assistance to developers and engineers in reviewing project recommendations.
  • Provide staff assistance to the Deputy City Engineer and serve in his or her absence; participate on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
  • Act as project manager responsible for all aspects of City projects relating to design and construction, including preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, contract documents, service procurement, quality control, budgeting and coordinating efforts.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings for staff and project coordination; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of civil engineering.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare revisions and update existing standards and policies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
