Curtiss-Wright Corporation Purchasing and Materials Estimating Manager in Cheswick, Pennsylvania

We are looking for a Purchasing and Materials Estimating Manager to join our Pittsburgh (Cheswick) location.

Your Responsibilities:

EMD, a business unit of Curtiss-Wright in Cheswick, PA, is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead the Sourcing Team responsible for developing material cost estimates, managing supplier and buyer performance data/reports, forecasting, supplier monitoring/oversight functions, and developing the supply base to support outsourcing demands. This position requires an innovative individual with excellent communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to lead a diverse group of responsibilities and associates.

Your Challenge:

  • Responsible and accountable for the preparation, documentation, and maintenance of defensible material cost proposals, data and records to support customer audits

  • Capture lessons learned and translate into strategic sourcing solutions as part of the material estimating process

  • Directs the activities of a diverse group of data analysts, buyers, supply chain manufacturing liaisons, and support personnel to accomplish company objectives; recruits and develops staff as appropriate

  • Develops policies and procedures for the continuous improvement of material estimating and procurement support activities

  • Provides other Sourcing team members with the data necessary to negotiate major contracts and supply agreements with suppliers to favorably impact cost and continuity of supply

  • Ensures Team’s compliant execution of Government-approved Purchasing System and Estimating System

  • Lead and execute management of small business subcontracting program

  • Responsible for workload and material cost forecasting

  • Lead team of supply chain manufacturing liaisons to support pre-award, planning, and execution activities, including single/sole source justifications, internal estimates, supplier development/expansion, supplier oversight/expediting, capacity assessments, commercial item determination, and new product development support

  • Develop plan and implement strategic changes to minimize/prevent delays during purchase order placement, including delays associated with terms and conditions, pricing validity, and lack of competition

  • Lead cost and pricing audit activities for supplier scope

What you Bring:

  • Must be sole US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent experience in material estimating or procurement role(s)

  • At least 10 years of experience in the Defense or Commercial Nuclear industry and within a low-volume, high mix manufacturing environment required; prior procurement or material estimating leadership experience preferred

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Government contracting practices, including hands-on experience with FAR/DFARS, contract negotiations, and related laws and regulations

  • Understanding of Supply Chain Management operational concepts surrounding planning, scheduling, purchasing, and supplier selection

  • Planning / negotiation skills and project management and strategic sourcing competencies are highly desired

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to energize, build consensus, and drive change with staff, peers and direct reports

  • Excellent cross-functional interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills

  • Self-starter, highly-motivated, action-oriented, proactive, collaborative, and results-driven

  • Proven project management skills, developing action plans from strategic initiatives, and driving results through accountability

  • Excellent organization, communication (written and oral), time management, and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to develop direct reports

  • Comfortable presenting to, and interfacing with, government auditors and auditing agencies

  • Travel – 15% annually
