Material Cost Estimator

We are looking for a Material Cost Estimator to join our Pittsburgh (Cheswick) location!

Curtiss-Wright EMD is searching for a Material Cost Estimator to support its Sourcing Team. The ideal candidate will play a key role within the Sourcing organization, analyzing and developing material cost estimates in support of Government and commercial bid and proposal activity. This position requires an innovative individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of associates across multiple disciplines.

Your Challenge:

  • Analyze and price Bill of Materials (BOM), coordinating with Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, Contracts, Sourcing, Finance, and other departments to define material requirements, including compliance requirements and strategies for procurement

  • Utilize Supply Chain practices and judgment to determine best factors for developing pricing

  • Develop material cost proposals based on historical pricing, recent bids, market knowledge, material, labor, and commodity indices

  • Assure compliance with the Small Business and Small Disadvantaged Business requirements of the Request for Proposal or the law by ensuring opportunities are extended to qualified businesses, as required

  • Review supplier quotes to ensure the item, quantity and details are appropriate for the cost proposal estimate

  • Identify areas of risk including potential impacts to delivery, technical exceptions or item obsolescence

  • Prepare, document and maintain defensible material cost proposals, data and records to support customer audits in compliance with the FARs/DFARs/CFRs

  • Interface with government or prime contractor auditors to substantiate fair and reasonable pricing

  • Manage competing priorities to support internal and external customers

What you Bring:

  • Must be sole US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance

  • Requires relevant Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

  • Material cost estimating experience

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted purchasing practices, FARs/DFARs/CFRs, contract negotiation, and related laws and regulations

  • Well versed in data analysis and development of costing models

  • Must be fluent in Excel

  • Familiarity with market data and escalation/inflation

  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications

  • Working knowledge of quantity curves and how to apply pricing indices (i.e., S&P Global Market Intelligence, Consumer Price Indices, Bureau of Labor Statistics, London Metal Exchange, etc.) to historical material prices

  • Working knowledge of raw material chemical composition in order to develop escalation formulas

  • Understanding of exchange rates (Pounds / Euros, etc.) and how to apply to material prices

  • Excellent cross-functional interpersonal, facilitation, communication and leadership skills
