The Opportunity

We are in search of an IT Risk and Compliance Lead who possesses the requisite expertise in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The ideal candidate will offer comprehensive risk management support to a specific line of business or a staff agency, focusing on key aspects such as risk identification, measurement, monitoring, control, and reporting, alongside the effective understanding and management of risks through the application of appropriate practices and processes. This individual will be responsible for assessing and leading all aspects of the exposures of both the enterprise and the business, including both key and emerging risks. Furthermore, they will supervise the risk and control environment, ensuring that there is effective engagement with internal and external partners to maintain exposures at acceptable levels. The right candidate must demonstrate a robust background in SDLC, including management of software development processes. They should also possess strong written and verbal communication skills, along with proven experience in risk assessment, regulatory compliance, or audit. Additionally, a solid understanding of COBIT and FFIEC is important.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Identifies and seeks key partners across the enterprise to support the identification, assessment, aggregation and the overall management of risks and controls.

  • Presents findings and recommendations to various levels of leadership.

  • Routinely communicates results of risk assessments to governance committees, business process owners and various levels of leadership and influences decision making.

  • Develops process and procedures for successful implementation of new risk policies, practices, appetites and solutions to ensure comprehensive understanding and management of risks according to industry standard process.

  • Develops strategies, tools, and methodologies to measure, monitor, and report risks.

  • Applies experienced knowledge to use or produce analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand business objectives and influence solution strategies.

  • Leads, assembles and facilitates cross-functional teams to identify, assess, aggregate and mitigate current and emerging risk events.

  • Serves as the point of contact for senior risk leadership on projects and special management requests that often impact the enterprise or core operating area.

  • Formulates and reviews stress test plans for a line of business or the enterprise.

  • Evaluates results, and frames contingency plans in partnership with key business partners.

  • Crafts key communications to be delivered to executives and board members.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or a related field or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • 8 years of risk management, regulatory or operations experience in a relevant functional area to include banking, insurance, financial services, audit, project management, public accounting or other related operational area Or advanced degree/designation in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or other subject areae relevant to risk management and 6 years of work experience in a field relevant to risk management.

  • Detailed risk management experience in a complex institution and/or highly matrixed environment.

  • Proven experience in conflict resolution management and ability to optimally challenge at all levels of management and influence business outcomes.

  • Experience leading and advising work with both internal and external partners in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques and decision-making abilities, to include proven track record to optimally make data-driven decisions.

  • Proactively identifies potential concerns and follows-up to resolve issues.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Detailed understanding of SDLC including Defect Management (1st Line, 2nd Line or 3rd Line)

  • Risk Management Understanding and Experience

  • Strong Written Communication Skills including preparing Executive level presentations

  • Strong Verbal Communication Skills

  • Prior Assessment (Risk Assessment, Regulatory, or Audit) Experience

  • Prior experience with SLDC metrics (KRIs, KPIs, and RAMs)

  • Solid understanding of IT Change and IT Release processes including User Acceptance Testing

  • Detailed understanding of SDLC Frameworks (COBIT) and Regulatory Guidance (FFIEC

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $138,230 - $264,200 .

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
