Leidos Intern - Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering in Chesapeake, Virginia

Description

DLBA Naval Architects, a division of Gibbs & Cox, has an internship opening for summer 2025. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide naval architecture support in the development of steel, aluminum, and composite (a) recreational vessels, (b) commercial ship designs, (c) U.S. Government programs from 20 to 250 feet in length.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria for design and modification of boats and craft.

  • Is working toward becoming a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of marine vessel design (resistance and powering, stability evaluation, structural design, seakeeping predictions).

  • Work may require a broad knowledge of precedents in naval architecture and an in-depth knowledge of principles and practices of related technologies.

  • Works independently and/or as a team member to develop complete design definition.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required and candidates must be able to obtain a Secret DoD security clearance.

  • Rising Junior (or higher) in B.S. degree program for Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Ocean Engineering.

  • Ability to work independently or as a team member

  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Work, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Proficiency in using industry-standard CAD software, including AutoCAD and/or Rhino

  • Strong analytical skills, communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internships in the field of naval architecture and marine engineering

  • Shipyard experience

Pay Range:

Pay Range $44,850.00 - $81,075.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
