Jewish Federation of Southern NJ Sandbar Sharks Head Coach - Seasonal in Cherry Hill, New Jersey

SandBar Sharks is an inclusive program that operates in tandem with the Katz JCC Sharks swim team. The season will run from early October ‘24 and through mid-March ‘25. The head coach would be needed on a part-time basis for two practices per week; Tuesday evenings from 7:15 - 8 pm and Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 8:15pm and scheduled swim meets (approx. late winter to early spring.)

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with neurodiverse swimmers and their families.

  • Create and execute plans for each individual swim practice

  • Facilitate swim technique and the fundamental understanding of the discipline to each team member. Including teaching stroke mechanics, starts, and turns and proper swimming techniques.

  • Provide feedback to motivate athletes

  • Provide a positive and enjoyable environment for class participants, interacting in a pleasant and professional manner

  • Develop training plans and monitor athletes' progress by analyzing and evaluating swimmers during practice and competitions

  • Ensure safety of patrons in the facility and be prepared to take charge in an emergency if necessary.

  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.

  • Organize competitions and other related events

  • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed within the scope of the position

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be Red Cross First Aid (other sanctioned swim credentials) certified

Coaching credentials are also preferred but not required.

AED / CPR certification is also preferred but not required.

USA swimming knowledge is also preferred but not required.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • At least 3 years of coaching/swim lessons experience that includes working with neurodiverse athletes

  • Ability to create and implement swim training programs

  • Knowledge of competitive swimming rules and regulations

  • Must be positive, energetic, enthusiastic, calm, patient, and motivational.

  • Must enjoy contact with the public, and consistently remember that first impressions are important with every personal contact.

  • Special Olympics Swim experience preferred but not required.

  • Ability to perform continuous physical activity in the water (pushing, pulling, lifting, and participation in continuous activity for a minimum of one hour at a time while in the water)
