: Job Summary: Performs personal care and activities necessary to meet the physical as well as psychosocial needs of the residents. Qualifications: * Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) * High school diploma or equivalent. * Dementia in-service education. * Ability to read and speak the English language Essential Functions: * Supports Meadows Communities dementia care units philosophy and goals. * Flexible, patient, good communication skills and ability to be an effective team member. * Willingness to try new approaches and programs. * Assists residents in maintaining self care skills and independence with bathing, toileting, grooming, eating, etc. * Assists in planning and leading structured group activities on a daily basis. * Supports the dementia unit program by encouraging residents to attend and participate in activities. * Provide for safety and security of residents in use of patio garden, exits, side rails or other safety devices in accordance with facility, state and federal regulations and document on the flow sheet. * Escorts residents on day trips away from facility, (during his/her scheduled day). * Simple manipulative skills are required to accurately manipulate wheelchairs through doorways, moving linen carts, etc. * Perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as recording resident weights and food intake, temperature taking, adjusting bathtub temperature setting, etc. * Clear speech, reading and hearing skills are required continuously to comprehend and communicate with residents and co-workers, to follow written plans of care and respond to emergency alarms. * Requires ability to identify residents, call lights, and unusual occurrences on unit at distance of 50 feet. * Requires ability to read small print and written material, thermometers, and observe changes in residents condition, etc. * Concentrate on moderate detail with some interruptions. * Attention span necessary to attend to task/function for 10-25 minutes related to certified resident assistant duties. * Must be available to work extra hours, including but not limited to; staying after your scheduled shift and coming in early as determined by Nursing Management to meet the needs of residents. * Comprehend oral and written instructions. * Ability to comprehend simple directions and specific ideas behind actions. * Memory capable of remembering task/assignment ranging from a few hours to long periods of time. * Attends in-services, seminars, workshops, etc. and is able to relate and apply knowledge learned to work situation. * Demonstrates sense of humor. * Communicates ideas, concerns and resident injuries, or problems to charge nurse. * Functions is a calm, professional manner in emergency situations including while transporting residents. * Provides input into resident conferences and care planning sessions. * Maintains and safeguards entrusted confidential information. * Performs other job duties as requested by charge nurse.
